Hotel Description
You know what’s funny about Guest House Kono? From the outside, walking along Marka Gjaje, you’d almost miss it – it’s tucked into this quiet residential street that feels worlds away from the tourist chaos down in the Old Town. But that’s exactly what makes it brilliant. I mean, you’re literally a 10-minute walk from Pile Gate, but instead of falling asleep to the sound of late-night revelers stumbling over cobblestones, you actually get to sleep.
The whole setup feels more like staying at a friend’s place than a typical hotel, which I guess makes sense given the name. The rooms are simple but thoughtfully done – nothing fancy, but everything works and there’s this attention to detail that you don’t always get at three-star places. Honestly, the cleanliness level is almost obsessive (in the best way), and the beds are surprisingly comfortable. The owner clearly knows what travelers actually need versus what looks good in photos. There’s decent Wi-Fi, proper blackout curtains, and – this might sound small but trust me – really good water pressure in the shower.
What really sold me on the place was how the staff actually knows Dubrovnik, not just the tourist version. When I asked about avoiding the crowds at the city walls, they didn’t just hand me a brochure – they told me to go right when it opens at 8 AM, enter at the Ploče Gate instead of Pile, and walk counterclockwise. That kind of insider knowledge is worth its weight in gold during peak season. The location on Marka Gjaje puts you in this sweet spot where you can walk to everything but you’re staying in an actual neighborhood. There’s a little bakery two blocks down that opens at 6 AM (perfect for early risers), and you’re close enough to the Lapad peninsula that you can easily hit the beaches there without dealing with the bus system. Parking can be tricky in this area – I mean, it’s tricky everywhere in Dubrovnik – but they’ll give you solid advice on where to find spots, and honestly, once you’re settled in, you won’t need your car much anyway. The whole experience just feels authentic in a way that’s getting harder to find in a city that’s been pretty much overrun by Game of Thrones tourism and cruise ship crowds.

The guest house is located on the top of city, next to the main motorway. If you have a car then it is perfect, the parking is right next to the main way and there is free parking included. You would need to take no more than 10 steps down and you are home.
What could be improved: In case you did not come with a car, the staircase to move around could be a bit painful. But then Uber can take you around within 10 EUR.Sandra from United Kingdom – 20 April 2025 (8/10)

We received very good instructions how to reach the property, since it has a special location, being located on a "street of stairs". We walked to the centre in the morning, it was an easy and relatively short walk. On the way back we took bus number 3 as suggested by our host, which worked out well after all the walks in the city. Warning: first the bus goes to a completely different direction than expected, however don't panic. After a few turns and about 15-20 minutes, it will get to the bus stop you want to get off
What could be improved: We had the downstairs property, which had somewhat less view than we would have expected based on the photos, but it didn't cause a real problem.Solaire from Spain – 14 October 2024 (8/10)
The view is absolutely gorgeous
Imma from United States – 29 September 2024 (8/10)
Lovely views! Quiet space, hosts were very kind and accommodating. Free parking.
It is quite literally at the top of the city, you can't go any further up! So be prepared for not just the steps but every single one of them.
What could be improved: Although the exterior view from the patio is absolutely gorgeous, you're in a bit of a half basement sort of space under the parking. You can't hear anything above you but it makes it a bit dark inside.Shantanu from Ireland – 17 September 2024 (8/10)
Clean . Dominick was very helpful and the views were extraordinary ! Also get to walk through tiny street to get into town – really loved seeing all the houses . 15 min walk to grad
