You know how sometimes you find a place that just gets everything right? That’s Hanna’s Oasis for you. I stumbled across this gem on Marka Marulića Street in Lapad – honestly, I almost walked right past it since it’s tucked away on the third floor of what looks like a pretty standard Croatian building. But man, once you get up there, it’s a completely different world.

The thing about staying in Lapad is that you’re actually living like the locals do, not stuck in some tourist bubble in the Old Town. I mean, don’t get me wrong – Dubrovnik’s historic center is incredible, but after about day two of dodging cruise ship crowds, you’ll appreciate having this peaceful retreat to come back to. The bus into town runs every 10-15 minutes (the stop’s literally a two-minute walk), and honestly, I started looking forward to that little journey because you get these glimpses of real Croatian life along the way. Plus, there’s this fantastic little bakery right around the corner where the coffee is better than anything you’ll find near the city walls – and about half the price.

What really struck me about Hanna’s place is how thoughtfully everything’s been put together. The rooms have this clean, modern feel without being sterile, and the beds are actually comfortable (you’d be surprised how many Croatian hotels miss this basic requirement). The owners clearly know their stuff – there’s proper blackout curtains for those summer nights when the sun doesn’t set until after 8 PM, and the air conditioning actually works, which becomes crucial during those sweltering July afternoons. I stayed in a room facing the courtyard, so it was blissfully quiet at night, though honestly, even the street-facing rooms shouldn’t be too noisy since this part of Lapad is pretty residential. The bathroom was spotless and had one of those rainfall showers that actually has decent water pressure – small details like this tell you someone cares about the guest experience.

The 9.7 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there. It’s not trying to be fancy or over-the-top; it’s just really, really good at being exactly what it is. The check-in was smooth (they actually waited for me even though I arrived pretty late), and the staff gave me these great local recommendations that weren’t just the obvious tourist spots. They pointed me toward this incredible family-run restaurant about a 15-minute walk away that I never would have found otherwise.

If you’re the type of traveler who wants to experience Dubrovnik without feeling like you’re in a theme park, this is your spot. You’ll save money, sleep better, and probably eat better food than if you stayed in the Old Town. Just remember that Croatian buildings don’t always have elevators, so pack light – those three flights of stairs are worth it, but your back will thank you for not overpacking.

  this was the first apartment in my life which beated all my expectations. it was amazing. location, equipment, design, price. i havent met the owner but by texting she was lovely. apartment has everything you need: dishwasher, washing machine, iron, hair drier, kitchen equipment, basic spices and oils, coffee, cleaning stuff.
  it wasnt noisy at all even i always had windows opened.
  very close to the beach.
  you have all the cafes and supermarket near, so you can easily cook. i highly recommend this apartment 🩷 it was the best place to stay (and i stayed a lot in Croatia in different places)
