Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw the address “Ul za Rokom 3” I had no idea how to pronounce it, but finding Hedera Estate turned out to be way easier than I expected. You’re literally steps from Stradun (that’s the main marble street everyone walks down), but tucked away enough that you won’t hear tour groups chattering at 7 AM. The building itself is this gorgeous old stone thing that actually feels like it belongs in Dubrovnik’s Old Town, not like some modern hotel that was shoehorned in.

What really got me was how they’ve managed to keep the historical vibe without making you feel like you’re sleeping in a museum. The rooms have these thick stone walls – I mean, we’re talking centuries-old thick – so it stays cool even when it’s blazing hot outside, and you know what? The Wi-Fi actually works, which honestly surprised me given how old these buildings are. The guy at check-in (I think his name was Marko?) knew exactly which restaurants to hit before they get packed with cruise ship crowds, and he steered us toward this little konoba down near Pile Gate that we never would’ve found otherwise. The whole place has maybe 20 rooms, so it’s not like you’re fighting for the front desk’s attention.

Here’s the thing about staying right in Old Town – yes, you’ll pay a bit more, but you can literally roll out of bed and be at the city walls before the morning light hits just right for photos. I watched people trudging up from hotels in Lapad every morning while I was already halfway around the wall walk with my coffee. The location means you’re hearing church bells instead of traffic, and honestly, there’s something pretty magical about having those narrow stone streets to yourself early in the morning. The only downside? Good luck getting a taxi right to the door – you’ll be walking the last bit with your luggage, but it’s maybe 200 meters from the nearest gate. Oh, and if you’re planning to visit during summer (July-August), book way ahead because places like this fill up fast, and trust me, you don’t want to be stuck in one of those big resort hotels outside the walls when you could be staying where the action actually is.

  The location was excellent within the walls of Dubrovnik Old Town. Absolutely beautiful place. Highly recommend people to visit.
  
  What could be improved: There is not enough wardrobe space to hang clothes. This is the only down side to the apartment. Be prepared to be able to climb three flights of stair to the top apartment.

  The details sent before the holiday were superb. It was brilliant our room was available early.
  
  The location was superb ; the breakfast location was superb; lucky we like egg. If you don’t like egg may be a bit awkward.

  The bed is rather low ; so if you have mobility issues will not be for you.
  
  Overall a quaint little place with a superb location and brilliant hosts. Really can’t ask for more.

  What could be improved: Bad is all I can say!
  Direction to the accomodation are hard to follow. Heater in the bathroom was broken, toilet seat was broken which makes me wonder how much cleaning was done, washing machine was broken. To top it off the wifi didn’t work. Was told to turn the router on and off again but there was no router in the room. Next day we were told to go into the room beside us and check their router as it was supposed to work for us to get internet. Day three they turned up to check the wifi…. “Nope it doesn’t work” so here’s a SIM card. Left a day early but couldn’t get a refund for the last day by itself.

  What could be improved: The people that manage the property could have been more helpful. They wanted a 100 euro deposit for a 2 night stay. The codes to get into the property didn’t work. On my last day the cleaners entered the property before 10am, whilst I was having breakfast. I returned at 10am to find the apartment cleaned. Also there are about 60 steps from the entrance to the apartment. The air conditioners didn’t work well and the hot water in the shower was cold.
