You know what struck me first about Villa Hedera II? It’s tucked away on this quiet residential street that most tourists never find – Ulica Ivana Matijaševića – but you’re actually just a pleasant 15-minute walk from the Old Town madness. I mean, you get the best of both worlds here: you can escape the cruise ship crowds in the evening, but you’re close enough that you won’t spend half your budget on taxis.

The villa itself feels more like staying at a sophisticated friend’s place than a typical hotel. It’s got that Mediterranean elegance thing down – think stone walls, beautiful terraces, and those shutters that actually keep the afternoon sun out (honestly, such a small detail but so important in July). The owners clearly know what they’re doing because everything just works. The air conditioning doesn’t sound like a jet engine, the WiFi reaches every corner, and – this is huge – there’s proper parking. If you’ve ever tried to navigate Dubrovnik’s narrow streets with a rental car, you’ll appreciate this more than any fancy amenities.

What really sets this place apart is how it captures that authentic Dubrovnik vibe without the tourist trap feel. You’re in an actual neighborhood where locals live, so you’ll hear church bells in the morning instead of tour group megaphones. There’s a little bakery around the corner that opens at 6 AM – the kind of place where the woman behind the counter will remember your order after two days. The garden areas are genuinely peaceful, perfect for that afternoon break when the Old Town gets overwhelming (and trust me, it will). I spent more time than I expected just sitting on the terrace with a book and a glass of local wine. The views aren’t dramatic sea vistas, but there’s something really satisfying about looking out over red tile roofs and cypress trees – it feels authentically Croatian, not like a postcard.

The service hits that sweet spot between helpful and not hovering. Check-in was smooth, they actually had good restaurant recommendations (not just the expensive tourist places), and when I mentioned I was leaving early for a flight, they arranged a taxi without me even asking. Small touches like that make a difference. The rooms are well-appointed without being flashy – good linens, solid shower pressure, and enough space to actually unpack. It’s the kind of place where you don’t think about the hotel itself much, which is exactly what you want.

  Fabulous location. The villa was great, well equipment, fantastic views and a brilliant pool.

  Liked the size, pool, and layout of the Villa. The staff were all very friendly and helpful in all regards. Went above and beyond to help us fix any issues and guide us for parking and the area.
  
  What could be improved: Providing soap and shampoo for the bedrooms. Travelers don't bring those things with them and it frustrating to have to spend money at the store to get bottles of shampoo and body soap for all the rooms.

  Modern villa, each bedroom had its own en suite so, for a group of friends it was ideal.
  
  What could be improved: Arrangents for depositing rubbish were not so great. There are no close rubbish receptacles. We initially put our rubbish at the end of a drive where the villa next door had already left theirs and ended up moving all of the rubbish (theirs included) to a distance which was too far away. Didn't detract from the break but not ideal.

  The villa was well proportioned and laid out. All the facilities you could want for a group. The outside area although small was comfortable and had sun and shaded areas.
  
  What could be improved: We would have liked more sun loungers as some of us (we were a party of 10) had to sit on cushions on the floor. The road is close by so there is some noise.
