Hotel Description
You know what? When I first walked up to Holiday Home Piccolo Mondo on Peline street, I almost missed it entirely – and honestly, that’s part of its charm. It’s tucked away in this narrow stone alley in Old Town Dubrovnik, the kind of spot where you can actually hear your footsteps echo off the ancient walls instead of being drowned out by tour groups.
The thing about staying right in the heart of Old Town is that you’re literally living inside a UNESCO World Heritage site, which sounds fancy but actually means you’re dealing with 500-year-old stone buildings that have their own personality. The rooms at Piccolo Mondo embrace this completely – think exposed stone walls that stay cool even in July, and windows that frame views of red-tiled rooftops instead of parking lots. I mean, it’s a 3-star place so you’re not getting marble bathrooms or whatever, but the owners have done something really smart here. They’ve kept all the character (those thick walls are amazing for blocking out noise, by the way) while making everything feel clean and comfortable. The beds are actually decent, which – let me tell you – isn’t always a given in Old Town accommodations.
What I love most about the location is how it puts you right in the middle of everything without feeling touristy. You’re maybe a two-minute walk from Stradun, the main drag, but Peline street itself is where locals actually cut through to avoid the crowds. There’s this little konoba around the corner where the owner’s grandmother still makes the pasta, and you’d never find it unless you were staying in the neighborhood. The morning routine here is pretty perfect – you can grab coffee at one of the cafes on Prijeko street (locals call it “restaurant street” but it’s way better for coffee than dinner, honestly) and then wander down to the harbor before the cruise ship crowds arrive around 10 AM.
I should mention that parking is… well, it’s Old Town, so there’s no parking. You’ll need to use the Ilijina Glavica garage outside the city walls and walk about 10 minutes with your luggage over cobblestones. It’s not terrible, but pack light or bring wheels that can handle bumpy surfaces. The check-in process was surprisingly smooth though – the staff actually knows the neighborhood and can point you toward the good stuff instead of just handing you a generic map. And here’s something I appreciated: they’re honest about the quirks. The shower pressure isn’t amazing (old building, high elevation), but the water gets hot fast and stays that way.
The 9.1 rating makes total sense once you spend a night here. It’s not trying to be a luxury resort – it’s giving you an authentic Old Town experience without the usual headaches of staying in a medieval building. You fall asleep to the sound of the Adriatic lapping against the harbor walls instead of air conditioning units, and you wake up to church bells instead of traffic. For what you pay, and especially for that location, it’s honestly hard to beat.

What could be improved: Everything was perfect!Superb! Perfect stay in outstanding location. – Anne from Switzerland – 1 November 2024 (10/10)
Perfect location within the medieval walls just inside the Buza Gate so very easy to get to and not far to walk with luggage (only a few steps). Very unusual little house over four different levels: ground floor entrance with toilet plus one double bedroom with ensuite; first floor dining and living areas with kitchen and balcony with a fantastic view over Dubrovnik; floor-1 double bedroom with ensuite; floor-2 double bedroom and access outside (note no ensuite here so you would need to walk through the bedroom on floor-1 to get to one).
The hosts Ivanka (onsite) and Ivana (remotely) were lovely and very welcoming.
