Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Hotel Komodor? The location actually makes perfect sense once you understand Dubrovnik’s layout. Most tourists get stuck in the Old Town chaos, but this place sits in Lapad – which honestly feels like where actual people live. It’s about a 15-minute bus ride from the medieval madness, and I mean that in the best way possible. The hotel itself is pretty straightforward – it’s a solid 3-star that doesn’t try to be something it’s not. The lobby has that slightly dated European hotel feel (think early 2000s renovation), but everything’s clean and the staff genuinely seems to care about getting things right.

What I really appreciated was how the neighborhood works. Masarykov Put isn’t some tourist trap street – there’s a decent bakery two blocks down where locals actually grab their morning coffee, and the whole Lapad peninsula has this relaxed vibe that’s completely different from the cruise ship crowds downtown. The rooms are… well, they’re hotel rooms, but the windows open properly (you’d be surprised how rare that is), and if you get one facing the right direction, you can actually see glimpses of the Adriatic. The beds are firm enough that you won’t wake up with a sore back, and the shower pressure is honestly better than some fancier places I’ve stayed. Air conditioning works well too, which matters more than you might think during those sweltering August afternoons.

Here’s the thing about staying here – you’re trading the “roll out of bed into a UNESCO site” convenience for a more authentic Croatian experience, and whether that’s worth it depends on what you’re after. The beach situation is solid (Lapad Bay is maybe a 10-minute walk), the restaurants nearby serve food that locals eat rather than tourist-menu nonsense, and you’ll save money on everything from coffee to dinner. The 7.7 rating makes sense to me – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it gets the fundamentals right without any major disappointments. Parking can be a bit tricky during peak season, but the front desk usually has decent suggestions. If you’re the type who wants to experience Dubrovnik without feeling like you’re living in a theme park, this spot actually delivers on that promise.

  • Mairead from Ireland – 18 May 2025 (8/10)

    What could be improved: nothing

  • Catherine from Canada – 14 May 2025 (8/10)

Loved the location! Lovely view. The pool was good- heated, they said, but still cold. The staff were all superb, especially the cleaning staff. They helped with the big luggage due to the stairs in the annex where our room was. Loved the patio for breakfast in the morning and 2 coffee machines eliminated lineups that we have experienced elsewhere

What could be improved: The shower with the gap instead of a door created quite a mess

  • Jane from United Kingdom – 12 May 2025 (7/10)

Great location, we had a great view from our bedroom of the sea/beach area and breakfast was good.

What could be improved: Needs an update, some areas looking a bit dated but generally good value for what we paid.

  • Grainne from Ireland – 8 May 2025 (7/10)

Overall the accommodation was good . Near the beach . Good bus service to the old city . The staff friendly and helpful.

What could be improved: No fridge in the room .

  • Steven from United Kingdom – 5 May 2025 (9/10)

The included breakfast was very good, and it is possible to pay a reasonable amount extra for a buffet evening meal, which was also very nice.

  • Papuna from Georgia – 11 October 2024 (7/10)

Polite staff, breakfast was always delicious.

What could be improved: Kind of surprised when I entered in the room and there was no mini fridge, which is important. I didn’t like that thing.

  • Colin from United Kingdom – 2 October 2024 (9/10)

Everything – but particulaly the room and its balcony overlooking the sea.

    What could be improved: Nothing.

  • Sarah from United Kingdom – 20 August 2024 (8/10)

What could be improved: Breakfast wasn’t great

What could be improved: Awful coffee 😭

  • Elizabeth from United Kingdom – 5 August 2024 (9/10)

Friendly, helpful and attentive staff. Excellent location. Great pool. Clean room with a great view.

What could be improved: Decor in the room a little tired and a few cracked tiles in the bathroom, but didn't affect our stay. Very little veggie options in the restaurant.
