Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Kablar’s Sunny Suites on Ulica kardinala Stepinca, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the best surprises come in unassuming packages, and this little gem about 15 minutes from Dubrovnik’s Old Town absolutely knocked my socks off.

The thing about this street is that it’s actually perfect for what most travelers really want – you’re close enough to everything that matters, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with the cruise ship crowds stumbling past your window at 2 AM. I mean, Stepinca is one of those residential roads where you’ll see locals heading to work in the morning, kids playing in small courtyards, and honestly? That’s the real Dubrovnik experience right there. The walk into town is totally doable (I did it every day), and there’s a bus stop practically around the corner if you’re feeling lazy or it’s particularly hot – which, let’s face it, it probably will be if you’re visiting in summer.

What really got me about Kablar’s was how much thought they’d put into the details. The suites (and they actually are suites, not just hotel rooms with a fancy name) have these little kitchenettes that are genuinely useful – I’m talking full-size fridges, decent coffee makers, even proper wine glasses. The owner, this incredibly sweet Croatian woman whose English is better than my Croatian will ever be, actually stocks local honey and jam for breakfast. Small touch, but it’s those kinds of things that make you feel like you’re staying somewhere special rather than just… convenient. The Wi-Fi is solid throughout – I worked from the little balcony most mornings with zero issues, which is more than I can say for some supposedly fancier places I’ve stayed.

Parking was surprisingly stress-free too, which anyone who’s driven in Dubrovnik will tell you is basically a miracle. They’ve got their own spots, and the woman at reception (I think she might be the owner’s daughter?) actually drew me a little map showing the easiest route to avoid the narrow streets where you’re playing chicken with delivery trucks. The rooms themselves are clean and bright – hence the “sunny” part of the name, I guess – with these lovely tile floors that stay cool even when it’s blazing outside. The air conditioning works properly, the shower has actual water pressure, and the beds are comfortable enough that I slept like a baby every night.

I stayed there in late September, which turned out to be perfect timing – still warm enough for swimming, but the summer crowds had mostly cleared out. The neighborhood gets properly quiet in the evenings, just the occasional sound of families chatting on their terraces or someone’s TV drifting through open windows. It’s exactly what you want after a day of exploring the city walls or getting lost in the maze of Old Town streets. Honestly, for the price point and that 9.5 rating, I can see why people keep coming back to this place. It’s not trying to be something it’s not – just a really well-run, comfortable spot where you can actually relax and feel like you’re experiencing a bit of local life rather than tourist central.

  Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Fantastic apartment with stunning views. Wouldn't hesitate to stay again. Very enjoyable. Possibly not suitable if you are not mobile as lots of stairs, bit like everywhere in Croatia!!   The owner is very responsive and helpful! Very beautiful apartments with a wonderful view from the balcony to the beach and mountains. The bed is big and very comfortable, lovely bed linen! The location is perfect – everything you need is just a hundred meters away – bus stop, beach, bars and restaurants, grocery store. I definitely recommend visiting the nearby restaurant Mamma Mia!

  The location was excellent, a great view and it was simply perfect for what I was looking for. In addition to that it´s very close to the beach and ubers to the old town are really cheap. In general a great experience and the host was very friendly and helpful and gave me tips for the zone.

  We loved staying here! We spent most nights out on the balcony and loved the view. We loved the location being in Lapad versus being in the busy old town. It was a fairly quiet street below and couldn't hear any road noise at all. it was a bonus having a garage for our hire car. only a 5-minute walk to the bus stop which takes you to old town. walking distance to the Tommy Market and to the main beach, It was beautiful every night for a swim. Just know there are a lot of stairs in Lapad.
  
  What could be improved: If there were a few more kitchen utilities and a flat bread toaster would be great to add. We found the fitted sheet too small for the mattress and it kept flinging off, might be better to have a larger fit or use a flat sheet and tuck underneath.

  Basically a perfect stay.
  The room was clean, comfortable and had all necessary amenities. It also comes with a balcony that has a good view of the sea! (Table and chairs too in case you want to take coffee or eat there).
  
  The location is excellent, the perfect place to relax and getaway from the hectic old town, with the Uvala beach just a few steps away, many restaurants nearby and a couple grocery stores easily accessible.
  Additionally there's one of the main ports close to the room, in case you want to take a tour, many boats depart from there.
  
  When we first arrived we thought it felt a bit too far from the old town, but then realized that it was a very good decision. You can easily reach it by bus, or taxi, and the bus station is less than a 5 minutes walk from the room.
  
  Luggage storage was allowed both pre check in and post check out, I appreciate it A LOT, lately not many places allow this, so it's definitely another great thing about this listing.
  
  The host was very kind, servicial and responsive, probably one of the best out there! Thank you for everything!
  
  What could be improved: Everything was perfect with the listing but I need to mention a couple things for other guests to keep in mind.
  1: You have to take stairs to get to the room, there's no elevator so you have to carry your luggage there.
  For us this was not a problem and the host kindly helped us with our cabin bags, but mentioning this for people with mobility restrictions.
  
  2: Not related at all with the room, but the bus back from the old town can be really packed on the way back depending on the hour.

  Great location, very close to boulevard (only one street away). Bus stop and cheap Ubers available to get to Old Town and other nice places. Also great parking spot for a car. Close to supermarkets as well. Very helpful host.
