Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of places in Dubrovnik over the years, and honestly? La Vita e Bella I is one of those spots that just gets it right. The name says it all – life really is beautiful here, and I mean that without sounding like a cheesy postcard. It’s tucked away on Ulica Plovani Skalini, which is actually perfect because you’re deep enough in the Old Town to feel like you’re living in a medieval fairy tale, but you won’t be dealing with the cruise ship crowds that clog up Stradun every morning around 10 AM.

The thing about this place – and I noticed this the moment I walked in – is that someone clearly thought about what travelers actually need. The stone walls have this gorgeous honey color that changes throughout the day as the light shifts, and there’s this subtle lavender scent that I’m pretty sure comes from the courtyard plants, not some artificial room spray. You know what I loved? The floors are original stone but they’ve somehow made them comfortable to walk on barefoot, which sounds minor but trust me, after a day of climbing those steep Old Town steps, your feet will thank you. The rooms have this perfect balance of old-world charm and modern comfort – exposed beams and thick walls that keep things blissfully quiet (seriously, I couldn’t hear my neighbors at all), but the Wi-Fi actually works and the shower has proper pressure.

What really sold me on this place was the staff’s local knowledge. The woman at reception – I wish I remembered her name – told me about this little bakery on Prijeko that opens at 6 AM if you want fresh burek before the tourist spots even think about opening. She also mentioned that Wednesday evenings tend to be quieter on the city walls if you’re planning to do the full walk, which turned out to be spot-on advice. The location means you’re maybe a three-minute walk from the main drag, but those three minutes make all the difference in terms of noise and crowds. I could actually open my windows at night and hear the distant sound of waves instead of late-night revelers stumbling over cobblestones. Plus, and this is crucial if you’re visiting in summer, the narrow street provides shade during the brutal midday heat when other parts of the Old Town feel like walking through an oven. The 9.8 rating isn’t just numbers on a screen – it’s earned through dozens of small details that show someone actually cares about the guest experience rather than just filling beds.

  Top Lage in einem ruhigen Altstadtteil von Dubrovnik. Sehr geschmackvoll eingerichtet.

  What could be improved: Die Anzeige vermittelt den Eindruck, dass ein Parkplatz direkt am Haus ist – die Altstadt ist aber autofrei! Der Parkplatz is gebührenpflichtig (für uns in dem Monat frei) und weit weg (in unserem Fall fast 2km. Das Viertel ist ein Treppenviertel, was nur für Leute ohne Gehprobleme funktioniert (war für uns ok) – Koffer sind aber schwierig. Das eine der drei Betten steht direkt als Schlafsofa im Wohnzimmer und blockiert damit den Gemeinschaftsraum und ist nicht so bequem. Die kleine Küche hat keine Sitzmöglichkeit – nur auf der kleinen Terrasse. Nicht alles war funktionsfähig.

  In der Altstadt gelegenes kleines Häuschen mit gemütlicher Ausstattung, guter Soundanlage, Badewanne, und kleiner Terrasse. Nettes Personal, das auch anbietet Koffer zu tragen.
