You know what? I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Dubrovnik over the years, and Lapad Holiday Apartment on Biokovska ulica is one of those gems that just… works. I mean, it’s not fancy – it’s a solid 3-star spot – but honestly, that’s exactly what makes it great. The location is brilliant if you know Dubrovnik at all. You’re right in Lapad, which locals will tell you is where you actually want to stay if you’re planning to spend more than a day or two in the city.

The thing about Biokovska ulica is that it’s residential enough to feel authentic – you’ll hear Croatian neighbors chatting on their balconies in the morning, smell coffee brewing from nearby apartments – but you’re literally a 10-minute walk to Lapad Beach. And I’m talking about that gorgeous pebble beach with the clear water, not some tourist trap. The Old Town? Well, you could walk it in about 45 minutes if you’re feeling energetic, but honestly, just hop on bus number 6 from the stop that’s maybe 200 meters away. Runs every 15 minutes or so during the day, and you’ll be at Pile Gate in no time. The apartment itself has this lived-in comfort that I actually prefer to those sterile hotel rooms downtown. The owner clearly put thought into making it functional – proper kitchen equipment (not just a hot plate and two forks like some places), decent WiFi that actually works, and the kind of shower pressure that makes you want to linger. The beds are comfortable enough that I never woke up with that stiff neck you get from cheap mattresses, and there’s enough space to actually unpack your stuff instead of living out of a suitcase.

What really sold me on this place was the quietness at night. Lapad has this perfect balance where you’re close enough to restaurants and cafes – there’s this fantastic little konoba called Dubrovnik just down the street that does amazing black risotto – but you’re not dealing with drunk tourists stumbling past your window at 2 AM like you would near Stradun. The neighborhood has actual grocery stores too, not just overpriced tourist shops, so you can grab proper Croatian coffee and fresh bread in the morning without breaking the bank. Parking can be a bit tricky if you’re renting a car (street parking fills up fast in summer), but there’s usually something within a block or two. The check-in was refreshingly straightforward – none of that awkward key-passing dance you sometimes get with apartment rentals. I’d definitely go back, especially during shoulder season when you can open the windows and hear the sea breeze rustling through the pine trees that line the street. It’s just a really honest, comfortable place to base yourself while exploring one of the world’s most beautiful cities.
