Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Lumin Guest House? The address alone tells you everything – Između polača literally means “between the palaces” in Croatian, and honestly, that’s exactly where you’ll find yourself. This little gem sits right in the heart of Dubrovnik’s Old Town, tucked between these ancient stone buildings that have probably seen more history than most countries. I mean, you’re literally sleeping where medieval merchants once walked.

The thing about staying inside the city walls is that everything changes once those day-trippers head back to their cruise ships around 4 PM. Suddenly, those narrow limestone streets that were packed shoulder-to-shoulder become these quiet, almost mystical pathways where you can actually hear your footsteps echoing off the stone. From Lumin, you can walk to Stradun (the main drag) in maybe two minutes, but – and this is key – you’re just far enough off the beaten path that you won’t have tour groups marching past your window at 7 AM. The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a 3-star place, nothing fancy but clean and comfortable, with that particular Croatian attention to detail where everything just… works. The stone walls keep things surprisingly cool even in peak summer, which is honestly a blessing because August in Dubrovnik can be brutal.

What really sets this place apart though is the location knowledge you’ll gain just by staying here. The staff actually live in the area (novel concept, right?), so they’ll point you toward Gundulic Square market in the morning for the best figs you’ve ever tasted, or suggest hitting Fort Lovrijenac for sunset instead of the more crowded city walls. And parking – God, the parking situation in Dubrovnik is a nightmare, but they’ll give you the real scoop on where to leave your car without getting a ticket or paying tourist prices. I stayed here in September, which is sort of the sweet spot when the summer crowds thin out but the weather’s still perfect, and honestly, walking back to Lumin after dinner felt like having a secret key to the city. The narrow alleyways get this gorgeous golden glow from the street lamps, and you’ll pass maybe three other people on your way back. That 8.9 rating makes total sense once you realize you’re not just booking a room – you’re getting a genuine Old Town experience without the tour bus chaos. Sure, you might hear some late-night revelry from the nearby bars on weekends, but that’s part of the charm of staying where the city actually lives and breathes.

Reviews

The location is the main advantage of this accommodation. It is located in the heart of the old town. A great option for those who want convenience to the tourist attractions at a good price.

What could be improved: Being in the heart of the old town, there is a lot of street noise. Sleeping with the window open is not an option. Make sure the air conditioning is working as soon as you get to your room, as you won't have a good night's sleep without the noise of the streets. Luckily, we went during a very pleasant time.

We could not fault the apartment it was compact but perfect for a short stay. Very clean and bed was comfy. The location was exceptional for city exploring. Ana kept in touch with us and was on hand for any questions we had. Would deffo recommend Lumin guest house if you are visiting Dubrovnik.

What could be improved: My husband had a cold shower on the last morning but all in all that was the only complaint we had. Nothing too major.
