You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Lunea Apartment on Klovica Street – honestly, the address in Sustjepan had me thinking I’d be stuck way out in the suburbs. But here’s the thing about Dubrovnik that catches people off guard: this neighborhood is actually this perfect sweet spot where you get that authentic Croatian residential feel without being miles from everything you want to see.

The apartment itself is one of those places that just gets it right in all the small ways. I mean, sure, it’s technically a 3-star place, but whoever runs it clearly cares about the details that actually matter when you’re trying to unwind after trudging around those ancient city walls all day. The space feels genuinely peaceful – and I’m not just throwing that word around because it’s in the name. There’s something about how the light filters in during the late afternoon, and honestly, the street noise is basically nonexistent compared to what you’d deal with closer to the Old Town. You can actually sleep past 7 AM without tour groups chattering outside your window, which… well, if you’ve stayed in the tourist center before, you know that’s worth its weight in gold.

What really won me over was how the whole setup just works for real people, not Instagram photos. The kitchen actually has decent counter space (I know, revolutionary concept), and there’s proper storage for the random stuff you accumulate when you’re exploring a place for more than a weekend. Plus – and this might sound weird to highlight – but the Wi-Fi doesn’t mysteriously cut out every time someone in the building uses their microwave. Small victories, right? The walk into town takes maybe 15-20 minutes if you’re not in a rush, and honestly, that daily stroll through the residential streets became part of what I looked forward to. You pass by these little neighborhood cafes and local spots that most tourists never stumble across, and there’s this one bakery about halfway where the smell of fresh bread hits you every morning around 8 AM.

I keep thinking about how this place manages to nail that balance between being a proper retreat and still keeping you connected to why you came to Dubrovnik in the first place. It’s not trying to be some fancy boutique experience, but it’s also not cutting corners on the stuff that matters – like having decent water pressure and blackout curtains that actually block light. The kind of place where you can spread out your maps and guidebooks without feeling cramped, then head out to explore knowing you’ve got somewhere genuinely comfortable to come back to. That 9.7 rating isn’t just people being generous – it’s what happens when someone creates a space that works for how people actually travel, not how travel magazines think they should.

  L'appartamento è davvero accogliente, carino e con i giusti comfort. Lucija, la proprietaria, è molto disponibile, parla un inglese eccellente e ci ha dato da subito ottimi consigli sulle attività per il nostro soggiorno. A anche provveduto ad una macchina per il caffè alla mia richiesta. Parcheggio incluso a pochi gradini dall'entrata. Sulla strada principale si trova la stazione dei bus, che permette collegamenti facili con il centro. Di fronte c'è un ottimo ristorante. A 5 min di macchina un supermercato.
  
  What could be improved: La posizione è oggettivamente fuori dal centro il che rende necessaria una macchina se si vogliono visitare anche le zone limitrofe, nonostante i trasporti pubblici disponibili. Il parcheggio al centro è quasi impossibile, il che ci ha ovviamente scoraggiato dal prendere la macchina. Il percorso per arrivare alla fermata è composto da scale. Essendo un po' isolato dal centro, oltre il ristorante manca qualche servizio in più.. ma ciò permette anche di avere una piacevole quiete la sera, lontano dal caos.
