Hotel Description
You know what caught me off guard about this place? Walking up to 5 Vara ulica, you’d never guess from the outside that you’re about to step into something really special. I mean, it’s tucked right into the Old Town’s stone maze – honestly, I walked past it twice before spotting the entrance. But once you’re inside, the Luxury Room Sorgo Cerva just hits different.
The room itself is this perfect blend of old Dubrovnik charm and actually functional modern stuff. The stone walls are original (you can tell because they’re slightly uneven in that authentic way), but they’ve got proper air conditioning and surprisingly fast WiFi. The bed is genuinely comfortable too – not one of those rock-hard European mattresses that leave you questioning your life choices. There’s this gorgeous view toward the cathedral area, and in the mornings you can hear the market vendors setting up on Gundulićeva Square, which is maybe a two-minute walk away. Actually, that’s one of the things I loved most – you’re literally in the heart of everything but somehow it doesn’t feel touristy and overwhelming.
What really sold me on this spot was how the owners clearly know their neighborhood. They gave me these super specific recommendations that weren’t in any guidebook – like where to grab the best burek early morning (this little bakery on Prijeko that opens at 6 AM) and which entrance to use for the city walls to skip the main crowds. The check-in was refreshingly straightforward too, no corporate nonsense or hidden fees. And here’s something practical that matters – they actually help with the whole Old Town parking situation, which honestly can be a nightmare if you’re driving. They directed me to a spot near Pile Gate that locals use, saved me probably an hour of circling around.
The building itself has this wonderful old-world feel without being stuffy about it. You’ll hear your neighbors occasionally through the stone walls, but it’s more charming than annoying – reminds you that you’re staying in a 500-year-old city, not some sterile hotel chain. The location is just unbeatable if you want to experience real Dubrovnik. You can stumble out for dinner at Dubrovnik’s hidden gems (there’s this incredible little konoba called Taj Mahal – yes, really – about three streets over), then walk home through the illuminated limestone streets without dealing with cruise ship crowds.
It’s definitely more of a boutique experience than a full-service hotel, which I actually preferred. No room service or concierge desk, but the personal attention you get makes up for it completely. The 9.3 rating makes total sense once you stay here – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it nails exactly what you want when you’re exploring Dubrovnik’s Old Town. Plus, you’re paying for the location and experience, not marble bathrooms and gold fixtures you’ll never use anyway.

Beautiful, comfortable room in the heart of Dubrovnik's old town – highly recommend! – Kathryn from New Zealand – 13 October 2024 (9/10)
The location is excellent. Just off the Stradun (main pedestrian street that runs through the walled city), in a quiet side street. The room was lovely. Luxuriously decorated and very comfortable. Great to have Netflix available. Our host Davor was very friendly and helpful, including giving us tips on how to get to the city from the port (where we arrived on a bus from Split). There was a bit of a mix up of rooms when we first got there, but he very graciously arranged a refund/discount and a bottle of wine, which was very much appreciated.
What could be improved: You needed a passcode to get into the property. I didn't have this from the host when we arrived, but a colleague of his was able to let us into the property and the room. There was then a mix of rooms and we had to move to a different one. It was also very nice, but not as big, as the one in the photo used to promote the room we thought we'd booked. It would be more appropriate to show the right room with the booking details, otherwise it is potentially a bit misleading. Given the mix up however, the host 'made good' with the refund/discount and bottle of wine by way of compensation and apology. And once settled in we had a really good stay there.Superb – George from United Kingdom – 7 October 2024 (9/10)
Great location in old town, most things were only a short walk away, very clean, owner was very helpful as well and answered any questions we had

If you are going to Dubrovnik, Sorgo Cerva is the place to stay. – Tony from Ireland – 26 September 2024 (10/10)
Dubrovnik Old Town is a beautiful place and no better place to stay than with Sorgo Cerva. It is centrally located just off the main strand in Old Town. The housekeeper was very attentive to our needs if we needed anything. And the host was always available if we needed him, or wanted to know anything. The room was spacious and the bathroom was clean. I also appreciated that the bed was firm and the pillows were very comfortable. It made our stay very enjoyable.
What could be improved: I liked everything about the room.Exceptional – Christine from United States – 21 September 2024 (10/10)
Cleanliness, modern, security, location
What could be improved: Hand shower head is missing
