The place sits in Orašac, which is about 20 minutes south of Dubrovnik’s old town, and that’s actually perfect because you get all the beauty without the cruise ship crowds that swarm the city center during peak season.

What really got me was the location on Poljice street – it’s tucked away enough that you feel like you’ve discovered something, but you’re still close enough to hop into Dubrovnik whenever you want. The drive along the coastal road is gorgeous, by the way, especially in the early morning when the light hits the water just right. Parking isn’t a nightmare like it is in the old town, which… well, if you’ve ever tried to find a spot near Pile Gate in July, you’ll appreciate that detail. The villa itself has this Mediterranean elegance thing going on – think stone and wood and those shutters that actually keep the afternoon sun out (crucial in Croatian summers). You know what I loved? The attention to small stuff. The towels were thick, the air conditioning was whisper-quiet, and the shower pressure was fantastic – honestly, you don’t realize how much you miss proper water pressure until you’ve stayed in a few European hotels where it’s basically a gentle mist.

The owners clearly know their stuff about hospitality. Check-in was smooth, none of that awkward standing around while they figure out your reservation. And they give you real local recommendations, not just the tourist trap restaurants that every hotel suggests. They pointed me toward this little konoba about ten minutes away where the fish was incredible and the prices were what locals actually pay. The breakfast spread was solid too – proper Croatian cheese, fresh bread, and coffee that didn’t taste like it came from a machine that hadn’t been cleaned since 2019. The terrace overlooks the Adriatic, and in the evening you can hear the waves but not the traffic, which strikes the perfect balance. September and October are probably the sweet spot for visiting – still warm enough for swimming, but the summer madness has died down and you can actually enjoy Dubrovnik’s streets without feeling like you’re in a human sardine can. If you’re planning to explore the islands, the ferry connections from Dubrovnik are decent, though I’d recommend renting a car for at least a day to check out some of the coastal villages south of here. The villa works perfectly as a base for all of that – close enough to everything, but far enough away that you can actually relax and hear yourself think.
