Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Mascheroni Luxury Rooms? The name actually undersells it. I mean, “luxury rooms” sounds like marketing speak, but when you’re standing on that narrow cobblestone stretch of Ulica od Sigurate – and honestly, most tourists walk right past without noticing – you realize this place gets something that bigger hotels miss entirely. The entrance is understated in that effortless European way, tucked between old stone buildings where you can actually hear the morning vendors setting up in the nearby squares instead of cruise ship announcements echoing off massive hotel facades.

The location is brilliant if you know Dubrovnik at all. You’re deep enough in the Old Town maze that you feel like you’re living there, not just visiting, but close enough to Stradun that you can stumble back after dinner without getting lost (though let’s be honest, everyone gets lost in those winding streets at least once). What I loved was stepping out in the early morning – maybe 7 AM before the day-trippers arrive – and having those ancient streets practically to yourself. The walls are right there, the harbor views are a two-minute walk, and you’re not dealing with the lobby chaos of those big places near Pile Gate. Actually, I think the reason this place scores a 9.4 despite being a three-star has everything to do with location and that personal touch you get when someone clearly cares about what they’re running.

The rooms themselves feel more like a sophisticated apartment than a hotel room – I mean that in the best way. There’s attention to detail that you notice gradually: the way the lighting works in the evening, how quiet it gets at night despite being surrounded by restaurants and bars, the fact that everything just… works. No wrestling with shower handles or hunting for electrical outlets. It’s the kind of place where you can actually picture yourself living, not just sleeping between sightseeing marathons. And here’s something practical that matters more than you’d think – the check-in was smooth, they knew the neighborhood well enough to give real recommendations (not just the tourist traps), and when I needed directions to find decent coffee early in the morning, they pointed me toward where locals actually go. Honestly, after staying in some of those massive resort-style places along the coast, this felt like discovering a secret that other travelers somehow missed.

Reviews

  • Exceptional – Brian from United States – 15 June 2025 (10/10)

Mascheroni had a convenient location to the Pile Gate entrance to the City Walls, public water fountain, good restaurants, and other key sights in Old Town. The room was compact but comfortable and all the fixtures and appliances were in good order.

What could be improved: It is slightly pricey for the size of room, but that mostly reflects the pricing environment of Dubrovnik Old Town.

  • Exceptional – Nicola from United Kingdom – 7 June 2025 (10/10)

Great location in the old town near Pile gate (up quite a few stairs, like much of old town). Hosts were lovely and welcoming and gave us lots of useful info. Room was comfy and clean.

What could be improved: Nothing about the room, we had a great stay

  • Lovely – Hannah from United Kingdom – 23 May 2025 (8/10)

Excellent location, well kept and lovely interior. Hosts were knowledgeable and helpful.

What could be improved: Little bit noisy at night but nothing too disruptive! That’s a small price to pay for the excellent location 🙂

  • Superb location within the city walls. Friendly and helpful hosts. Highly recommended. – Neil from United Kingdom – 22 May 2025 (10/10)

Location is key. Great to be within the walls of the old city. Gasper was an excellent welcoming host and told me everything I needed to know about the room – and was always available on WhatsApp. We had the only room with the little balcony, which made morning coffee a pleasure.

What could be improved: Obviously a lift to your floor would be welcome, but understandably impossible in an historic building.

  • Brilliant accommodation in a superb location – Charlotte from United Kingdom – 23 April 2025 (10/10)

Fantastic location, the room was quiet and clean, it suited us as a couple for a 3 night stay. Hosts were superb and gave lots of recommendations when we arrived. Thoroughly recommend this accommodation!

What could be improved: Nothing! It was all perfect!

  • Great property in central location, highly recommend. – Eleanor from United Kingdom – 20 April 2025 (10/10)

Fantastic location extremely close to the restaurant district and the Main Street. The room was also beautiful with a great view from the balcony. We were very pleased with our stay. Our hosts were also very friendly and helpful, and gave great recommendations on activities and restaurants.

  • Exceptional – James from United Kingdom – 2 January 2025 (10/10)

Exceptional location, perfect for Old Town and incredible for the value.
Extremely knowledgeable and helpful and communicative host.

  • perfect for a short stay – Katarzyna from Poland – 23 October 2024 (10/10)

location! few steps away from Stradun and Pile Gate, and many many restaurants. we had a neat room on the top floor, it was cute. a lot of useful flyers and books about Dubrovnik, very handy!! we were allowed late check out which saved us a lot of trouble 🤍 smooth check in and out. great communication with staff. everything was to our liking.

    What could be improved: nothing

  • Great location and great host – Tonya from United Kingdom – 19 October 2024 (9/10)

Gaspar the host was wonderful meeting us early and helping explain features of the city. I expected a reception so was surprised to not see one. But Gaspar was very attentive in getting us checked in earlier than planned into our room.

What could be improved: Would be good to put on the website which gate to have to come through that would be closer to the apartment. Our driver took us to a gate which was very very steep and lots of steps to finally make it to the apartment. With luggage it is a bit hard to navigate

  • See you next time, with less luggage – Betsy from United States – 17 October 2024 (10/10)

Charming, lovely room, lovely people managing property.

What could be improved: It was wonderful. There are stairs/no car zone. Pack lightly it’s well worth it
