You know what struck me first about Meridiens? It’s tucked away on Ulica kardinala Stepinca in a way that feels deliberate – like someone actually thought about where to put a hotel instead of just grabbing the first available spot. I mean, you’re still in Dubrovnik proper, but there’s this sense of being slightly removed from the tourist chaos that honestly makes all the difference when you’re trying to get some decent sleep.

The thing about this place is that it punches way above its three-star rating. I’ve stayed in plenty of four-star hotels that felt more generic than this. The rooms have character without being fussy about it, and the staff – well, they actually seem to know the city beyond just the obvious Old Town recommendations. When I asked about where locals go for coffee, the front desk guy didn’t just point me toward the nearest chain but mentioned this little spot down toward Gruž that I never would’ve found otherwise. That kind of local knowledge is worth its weight in gold, especially in a place like Dubrovnik where tourist traps are everywhere.

What really sells me on Meridiens is how it handles the whole Dubrovnik experience without the drama. You’re close enough to walk into the historic center when you want that postcard moment, but far enough out that you’re not dealing with cruise ship crowds streaming past your window at 7 AM. The neighborhood has actual Croatian life happening – people walking their dogs, corner shops that aren’t selling miniature city walls, that sort of thing. Parking isn’t the nightmare it is closer to the Old Town either, which if you’re driving (and honestly, having a car opens up so much of the coast) is a real blessing. The hotel sorted that out without the usual European city hotel dance of “well, there’s a garage three blocks away that costs more per night than some people’s rent.”

I’ll be straight with you – this isn’t the kind of place that’s going to wow you with a rooftop infinity pool or marble everything. But that 9.6 rating isn’t an accident. It’s the kind of hotel that gets the fundamentals right and then adds those little touches that make you feel like someone’s actually paying attention. The breakfast isn’t just continental hotel fodder, the Wi-Fi works everywhere (not just “in public areas”), and when you need restaurant recommendations, they’re not just rattling off the places that give them kickbacks.

If you’re the type who needs to Instagram your hotel lobby, maybe look elsewhere. But if you want a genuine base for exploring one of Europe’s most beautiful cities without feeling like you’re living in a tourist bubble, Meridiens gets it right. It’s the kind of place I’d actually book again, which honestly is the highest compliment I can give any hotel.

  Hosts welcomed us, and were present on departure, which is a nice touch. We got the garage, for free thus time!. Apartment is well equipped, nicely appointed and decorated. Bed is very comfortable. Balcony has a very nice view of the town and especially the Lapad bay and beaches.

  Very good location, close to the beach, also good connection to the centre. Also supermarket in conveninet location. Very nice and helpful host.

  Our room was with balcony with excellent view and comfortable bedding, nice and clean. Property has private garage to park our rental car at no extra cost.
  Property is located within 5-7 minutes walking distance to Bus #6 bus stop, can take you to old city gate in @10 minutes.
