Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of places around Dubrovnik, and Mia’s Wonderland honestly caught me off guard – in the best way possible. The name sounds a bit whimsical, sure, but don’t let that fool you. This little 3-star gem on Ulica uz Tabor sits in Ploče, which is actually perfect if you know the area. You’re right in that sweet spot where you can walk to the Old Town without being trapped in the tourist chaos, and honestly, the morning stroll down to the harbor becomes part of the whole experience.

What really got me was how Mia (yes, there’s an actual Mia, and she’ll probably greet you at check-in) has managed to create something that feels genuinely Croatian without all the kitsch. The rooms have this comfortable, lived-in quality – not fancy, but everything works exactly as it should. The Wi-Fi is solid, the shower pressure is surprisingly good, and you know what? The beds are actually comfortable, which I can’t say for half the boutique places I’ve tried. The whole place has this quiet confidence about it. No marble lobbies or pretentious art installations, just thoughtful touches that make you feel like you’re staying at a friend’s place – if your friend happened to have impeccable taste and really good coffee.

The location thing is huge though, and I mean this practically. You’re about a 10-minute walk from Pile Gate, but here’s the thing – you’re approaching the Old Town from the less crowded eastern side, so you skip most of the cruise ship bottlenecks. Plus, there’s this little konoba (traditional tavern) literally around the corner that serves the best black risotto I’ve had outside of someone’s grandmother’s kitchen. Mia will tell you about it if you ask, along with about fifteen other spots the guidebooks somehow miss. Parking can be a bit tricky in this area – it’s Croatia, so that’s just reality – but they’ll sort you out with suggestions that actually work. The building itself is quiet, even during peak summer when half of Europe descends on Dubrovnik. I think it’s the way the street curves that keeps most of the foot traffic flowing past rather than lingering.

What really sealed it for me was this: after three nights, I realized I hadn’t once felt like I was staying in a “hotel” – and that’s exactly what you want when you’re trying to actually experience a place rather than just photograph it. The whole thing feels authentic in a way that’s getting harder to find, especially in a city that’s been as discovered as Dubrovnik. It’s not trying to be anything other than what it is, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

  Just the perfect place.
  The location is amazing!
  The apartment is spacious with high ceilings and two full bathrooms. The place keeps nice and cold the entire time. Clean and comfortable.
  The host could not be any nicer.
  He was very responsive and helpful, met us at the taxi drop off so we didn't have to look for the location. He even helped us with the suitcases.
  He is very kind and accommodating
  
  Views are beautiful and waking up to the old Dubrovnik port view from my bed was mesmerizing. The old town city gate is just steps away. The booking says 10 minutes from the old town but it is just by the city wall which took us 2 minutes to get there.
  I hope I will come back to Dubrovnik and I will stay at the same location.
