You know what struck me first about Modern Apartment Lacus? The name’s a bit misleading – this isn’t your typical sterile “modern” place at all. It’s actually got this warm, lived-in feel that makes you want to kick off your shoes immediately. The building sits on Hrvatskog Crvenog Kriza street in Lapad, and honestly, when I first heard “Lapad,” I thought it might be some touristy afterthought. Turns out it’s this gorgeous peninsula that locals absolutely love – less crowded than the Old Town but still close enough that you’re not stuck taking expensive taxis everywhere. The apartment itself feels like someone’s stylish Croatian aunt decorated it with actual taste, not whatever IKEA catalog was on sale. There’s this beautiful balance between contemporary touches and Mediterranean warmth that you just don’t find in those cookie-cutter hotel chains.

What really won me over was the attention to small details that matter when you’re actually living somewhere for more than a night. The kitchen – and I mean a proper kitchen, not some sad mini-fridge situation – has everything you need if you want to grab fresh produce from the morning market in Gruž (about a 10-minute walk, by the way). The bathroom has this rainfall shower that actually works, which… well, anyone who’s traveled through budget accommodations in Europe knows that’s not always guaranteed. But here’s the thing about the location that took me a day to fully appreciate: you’re walking distance from Lapad Bay, which has this lovely pebble beach that’s perfect for morning swims before the crowds arrive. The locals hit the water around 7 AM, and honestly, joining them was one of those unexpected travel moments that made the whole trip.

The 9.5 rating makes complete sense once you spend time there – it’s not just about fancy amenities, it’s about thoughtful hosting. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, and the hosts actually gave useful recommendations (not just the usual “visit the Old Town” stuff everyone tells you). They mentioned this little konoba called Orhan that’s tucked away in Lapad’s residential area, and it ended up being one of my favorite meals in Croatia. The apartment stays surprisingly quiet despite being on a main street – Croatian construction standards are apparently pretty solid. My only minor gripe? The WiFi can be a bit spotty during peak evening hours when everyone’s streaming, but honestly, that forced me to actually read on the balcony instead of doom-scrolling, so maybe that’s a blessing in disguise. If you’re looking for somewhere that feels like a temporary home rather than just a place to crash between sightseeing marathons, this spot delivers in ways that surprised me.

  Breakfast in the next door hotel was delicious, apartment Lacus exceeded our expectations. It was so modern, impeccably clean, came with everything we could have wanted or needed including toiletries, Netflix, teas and coffees, complementary snacks and wine, a clean and modern shower, free secure parking. It’s in the perfect location where you can easily get a 5 min bus or a 30 min walk to the old town. Highly recommend and would definitely stay again!

  Very nice, modern, spaceous apartment with literally everything you could possibly need (toothbrush, washing mashine, iron, even some threads and needles!). Very quiet and silent. Perfect and timely communication via Whatsapp with the owners. Very nice welcome presents, not cheap ones and perfectly representing Croatia🙂 Breakfast is very good and served at a nearby hotel. Bus stop to the old town is right here on the street, just 20 meters from the entrance (by bus it is just 5 min. to the Grad, on foot ~25 min.). Taxi from the airport costs ~20€, to the airport you may also go by a shuttle bus, which stops at the same bus station for 10€ (you can't come here by bus from the airport, as it doesn't stop at this bus station). Very safe neighbourhood.
  
  What could be improved: The only thing that was missing was a hanger to dry the clothes after washing (but chairs and hangers in the wardrobe did the job😉). I'ld also prefer to have some English books along with Croatian and to stay not on the first floor, as the terrace felt like a well between a concrete wall and a huge cliff. But that's just pecking😉 Overall it was a great stay! Thanks a lot!

  We really liked Dubrovnik, a beautiful place. We will recommend the apartment to our friends and familiy. The apartment is very well equipped, nicely decorated and the breakfasts are delicious, a very large selection of food. Everything is perfect. We are glad that we chose this apartment.

  It was as described and very quiet during nights. Lovely to relax during vacation. It had everything we needed during our stay. It was next to a bus station to the airport and to old town which was really convenient.
  
  What could be improved: If I have to say something I would add to the apartment, it would be adding a drying rack to the terrace for beach towels😁

  Spent a lovely few nights staying at Apartment Lacus. Host Paula was friendly and explained everything to us upon arrival. We were pleased to see how clean the apartment was, matching the advertised photos perfectly. Checking in and out was easy. Breakfast was good, including a buffet style at the hotel next door. Bed was firm but comfortable. Bathroom was clean and shower was lovely, we received complimentary toiletries including shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion, as well as a shaving and dental kit. This was a nice touch. We were given a complimentary bottle of wine, water, and chocolate. We cannot comment on the cooking facilities and the terrace as we did not use them. All the facilities appear very new. There is a bus stop right outside the apartment, alongside a lovely little bakery and many grocery shops. We did not take the bus as the old town is only a short 30 minute walk away. Overall, this was a very comfortable apartment and we would recommend staying here for a few nights in Dubrovnik.
  
  What could be improved: We throughly enjoyed our stay, however if we must give any improvements, we would say that the bottom sheet on the bed was bobbled which felt rough against the skin while sleeping. However the bedding itself was lovely and soft. There isn't much of a view from the terrace. Also, the neighbours could be noisy at times, we occasionally heard drilling from next door, and stomping from upstairs, but this wasn't a big issue for us.
