Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Hotel Oaza on Josipa Berse, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the best surprises come in unassuming packages. This little gem sits tucked away in Lapad, which is actually perfect if you want to experience Dubrovnik without the tourist circus that is the Old Town (don’t get me wrong, the Old Town is stunning, but try finding a decent meal there that won’t cost you a kidney).

The thing about Oaza is that it gets the fundamentals right in ways that matter. The rooms are clean and comfortable – not fancy, but honestly, when you’re spending your days exploring the coast or day-tripping to the islands, you just need a good bed and a solid shower. What really struck me was how quiet it gets at night, which is rare in Dubrovnik during peak season. I mean, you’re close enough to hear the occasional late-night conversation from the street, but it’s not the kind of noise that’ll keep you up. The staff actually seems to care about whether you’re having a good time, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how often that’s missing in tourist hotspots.

Here’s what locals won’t tell you but I will – Lapad is where you want to be if you’re planning more than just a quick Old Town visit. There’s a decent beach about a 10-minute walk away (rocky, but the water’s incredible), and you can catch the bus to the main sights without the hassle of trying to park anywhere near the city walls. Plus, there are some solid restaurants in the neighborhood that haven’t been completely overrun by tour groups yet. The hotel itself doesn’t try to be something it’s not – no pretentious lobby or overpriced minibar nonsense – just a well-run place that understands what travelers actually need. I noticed they keep the common areas spotless, the WiFi actually works (crucial for those Instagram shots from your balcony), and check-in was refreshingly straightforward. That 9-star rating makes sense when you consider the value proposition here. It’s not luxury, but it’s exactly what you’d hope for in a neighborhood hotel that cares about doing things right.

  Good location, close to old city and 5-10 min walk to the beach strip where most restaurants and shops are located. Very clean property, the owner was very friendly and accomodating. There is also a fantastic view overlooking the town from the balcony. Lovely terrace in the garden where you can relax with a drink and soak up the sun. Just be cautious walking on the grass in the garden as there are some cute turtles roaming around.

  The host was very welcoming. We were able to drop off all our luggage early in the morning. The hosts carried our luggage to our apartment up two flights of stairs for us.
