Hotel Description

You know what really struck me about Old Town Garden Apartments? It’s actually tucked away on this quiet little street – Ulica od Domina – that most tourists just walk right past. I mean, you’re literally steps from all the Dubrovnik madness, but somehow you’ve escaped into this peaceful pocket that feels almost residential. The address might sound intimidating if you’re not familiar with the Old Town layout, but honestly, once you find it (and you will, it’s easier than it looks), you’ll realize you’ve hit the jackpot.

The apartments themselves have that perfect balance of old-world charm without feeling like you’re staying in a museum. The stone walls are thick – and I mean thick – which is actually a blessing because it keeps things cool during those brutal summer afternoons when the tourists are melting on the Stradun. There’s something really satisfying about having your own space here instead of a typical hotel room. You can actually spread out, maybe grab some ingredients from the morning market and cook something simple. The kitchenettes aren’t fancy, but they’re functional, and after a few days of restaurant meals, you’ll appreciate having the option. What really gets me is how they’ve managed to preserve these historic details (the windows, the stonework) while making everything work for modern travelers.

The garden aspect isn’t just marketing fluff either – there’s genuine green space here, which is sort of rare in the Old Town proper. It’s not like you’re staying in some sprawling resort garden, but there are these lovely little terraced areas where you can actually sit with your morning coffee and not feel like you’re on display for every passing tour group. The location means you’re close enough to walk to the city walls in about three minutes, but far enough from the main drag that you won’t hear drunk tourists singing at 2 AM. Parking is… well, it’s Dubrovnik, so forget about parking anywhere nearby – but the staff actually gives you proper directions to the lots outside the walls, which saves you from driving in circles like most visitors do. The whole experience feels more authentic somehow, like you’re staying in someone’s carefully restored family home rather than a corporate hotel. That 8.6 rating makes total sense when you consider you’re getting genuine Old Town living without the usual compromises.

Reviews

  • Very good – Mark from United Kingdom – 6 July 2025 (8/10)

Excellent central location. Very clean and comfortable. Good communication from the host. She told us via WhatsApp that it's actually No.8 halfway up the stairs from Soul Kitchen. Not No.6 as Booking.com info says!

    What could be improved: Cost!!!!!

  • Very lovely stay, had everything we needed and the host was delightful and so helpful – thank you so much – Siobhan from United Kingdom – 16 June 2025 (10/10)

Excellent location and such a friendly and welcoming host – thank you for your hospitality Maricel

What could be improved: Very steep stairs but we were fine with this. If you have mobility issues, it would be hard.

  • Old Town with current facilities – Debbie from Australia – 4 June 2025 (10/10)

location, friendly staff, resources in accomodation, kitchen,

What could be improved: stairs. but that's a part of the city and not specific to this accomodation

  • A gem in the centre of Dubrovnik – Lora from United Kingdom – 25 April 2025 (10/10)

Everything about this apartment is wonderful. It's right in the centre of the old town so it's perfect for getting up early for shots of the city without all the tourists. Once you enter the main door it's like a secret garden and then a few more steps and you're at the apartment itself.

The 2 bedrooms are of good size, the beds were comfortable and had everything you needed. Personally it was a shame we only stayed 1 night as I loved it.

What could be improved: There isn't a proper blind in the bedrooms, so bring an eye mask if you want to sleep in late. Also the bathroom door is frosted so be aware you may see more than you'd like if you're travelling with friends.

The stairs are steep but there is a handrail.

  • Amazing location and apartments – Sophia from United Kingdom – 27 March 2025 (10/10)

This property and the host were both amazing! The place was situation in an amazing location and the host was waiting at the door for to guide us to the right place. They were very polite and accommodating to an earlier check in. The apartment itself was clean and very comfortable with plenty of amenities! Would definitely stay here again!

  • Great quiet location in the heart of old town. – Christina from United States – 16 September 2024 (9/10)

Excellent location, surprisingly quiet off an internal courtyard.

What could be improved: AC only upstairs and impossible to cool down the downstairs or both bedrooms effectively. Stairs are steep!

  • Perfect noght stay in Dubrovnik – Nataliya from Canada – 14 September 2024 (10/10)

Perfect location and facilities. Very cooperative staff

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Great location for a stay in old town – Sue from New Zealand – 12 September 2024 (9/10)

Great location really central – lovely staff and the wine bar is beautiful!

  • Thoroughly enjoyable stay at Old Town Garden Apartments – Sean from United Kingdom – 28 August 2024 (8/10)

We loved the location of the apartment as we were already within the Old Town and close to so many eating establishments and activities.
The air conditioning was super for a two storey apartment served by one aircon unit.
    The bed was super comfortable.
WiFi was very good and useful in planning next day events/walks and keeping up to date with those at home.
It was quiet at night even though it was close to restaurants.
Our host, Maricel, was very friendly, helpful and welcoming.

What could be improved: The main photograph showed a table and chairs in an open area setting, which we were looking forward to using when eating breakfast. There was no table and chairs available during our stay and this area was an access route to a wine bar (a very good wine bar which we used on the first evening).
The kitchen could have used a toaster, however, we did use the sandwich toaster which was slow.
Would have liked to have been able to place the shower at high level but had to hold the shower head with one hand.

  • Thoroughly enjoyed it. – Morrison from Australia – 27 August 2024 (9/10)

The central location. The quietness and facilities.

What could be improved: Better directions to find the place.
