I mean, when you’re staying in Lapad, you’re already in one of Dubrovnik’s quieter neighborhoods – about a 15-minute bus ride from the Old Town chaos – but this apartment’s outdoor space actually makes you want to skip the tourist trail entirely. It’s got that perfect morning coffee setup where you can watch the locals heading to work while you’re still in your pajamas, which honestly felt like a luxury after fighting crowds at Pile Gate the day before.

The apartment itself is surprisingly spacious for Croatian standards. The bedroom has this lived-in comfort that vacation rentals often lack – proper blackout curtains (thank god, because those summer sunrises come early), and the air conditioning actually works without sounding like a helicopter landing. The kitchen’s well-stocked too, which matters more than you’d think when you realize that eating out in Dubrovnik every meal will drain your wallet faster than you can say “black risotto.” I ended up making breakfast most mornings and honestly enjoyed it more than the overpriced hotel buffets I usually settle for. The whole place has this authentic residential feel – you’re staying where people actually live, not in some sanitized hotel bubble.

Location-wise, Lapad is sort of Dubrovnik’s best-kept secret for people who want to experience the city without the cruise ship madness. You’re a quick walk to Lapad Bay, which has this lovely promenade where locals take their evening strolls – way more chill than the packed city walls. The bus connection to Old Town is reliable (line 6 runs frequently), and there’s actually decent parking nearby if you’ve rented a car, which is practically impossible to find closer to the historic center. The neighborhood has real grocery stores, not just tourist shops selling overpriced water, and you’ll find yourself picking up fresh bread from the local bakery like you live there. Sure, it’s not as immediately Instagram-worthy as staying inside the ancient walls, but that 8.3 rating makes sense when you factor in the space, the terrace, and the fact that you can actually relax here. It’s the kind of place where you might catch yourself extending your stay just to spend another evening on that terrace with a bottle of local wine, watching the sunset paint the Adriatic. Which, let’s be honest, beats another night of restaurant hunting in the tourist quarter.
