Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about Palazzo Maineri? It’s technically a 3-star hotel, but honestly, it feels way more luxurious than that rating suggests. I mean, the location alone – right on Široka ulica in the heart of Old Town – would make most 5-star places jealous. You’re literally steps from the Rector’s Palace and about a two-minute walk to the main drag, Stradun, but somehow it feels tucked away from all the cruise ship chaos.

The building itself is this gorgeous old stone palace that’s been converted beautifully. When you walk in, there’s this immediate sense of history – thick walls, original architectural details, that kind of cool stone smell that old Dubrovnik buildings have. The rooms are actually quite spacious (which is rare in Old Town, trust me), and they’ve done this smart thing where they’ve kept the historic character but added modern touches that actually work. The air conditioning was a godsend when I visited in July, and I was worried about noise since you’re right in the center, but the stone walls are thick enough that you don’t really hear much street activity at night.

What really impressed me was how the staff seemed to know Dubrovnik inside and out – not just the touristy stuff, but like, they told me about this little wine bar on Prijeko that I never would have found otherwise, and they knew exactly when to avoid the main squares because of cruise ship schedules. The breakfast situation is solid too, though it’s more of a European continental style rather than a huge buffet (which honestly fits the intimate vibe better). Parking is… well, it’s Old Town, so you’ll need to use the public garages outside the walls, but they help coordinate that whole process. One small thing – the Wi-Fi can be a bit spotty in some rooms, probably because of those thick historic walls, but it’s not a dealbreaker. The 9.4 rating makes total sense once you’re there; it’s one of those places where everything just works smoothly, and you feel like you’re staying somewhere special rather than just another hotel room. If you want to be right in the heart of everything historic and atmospheric about Dubrovnik without paying resort prices, this is honestly one of the better choices you’ll find.
