Hotel Description
Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of places in Dubrovnik’s Old Town, and honestly? Palazzo Maineri hits that sweet spot you’re always hoping for but rarely find. The Superior Double Room sits right on Široka ulica – and if you know anything about the old city, you know that’s prime real estate without the absolute circus of Stradun (the main drag where tourists bottleneck like crazy).
What really got me was walking into this place after navigating those narrow limestone streets. You climb up to the third floor – yeah, there’s no elevator, but I mean, it’s a centuries-old building, so what did you expect? – and suddenly you’re in this beautifully restored space that actually feels like someone’s elegant home rather than a hotel room. The ceilings are high, the stone walls have character (you can practically feel the history), and the windows… well, they open onto views that make you understand why people lose their minds over this city. The morning light comes in just right, and you can hear the gentle hum of the old town waking up without being blasted by the tour groups that descend later.
Here’s what I really appreciated – the attention to details that matter when you’re actually living somewhere for a few days. The bed is properly comfortable (not those rock-hard European mattresses that leave you wondering if you’ve offended someone), there’s decent storage space for your stuff, and the bathroom is modern without feeling out of place. You know what’s genius? The way they’ve positioned everything so you get that old-world charm but with things like reliable wifi and air conditioning that actually works. During peak summer season, trust me, you’ll be grateful for that AC when the stone streets outside are radiating heat like an oven.
The location really can’t be overstated – you’re literally a two-minute walk from the Rector’s Palace and about thirty seconds from some of the best konobas (local taverns) that most tourists never find because they’re not right on the main tourist route. I’d slip out in the early morning when the cruise ship crowds hadn’t arrived yet, grab coffee from that little place around the corner on Prijeko, and feel like I had the whole medieval city to myself. And parking? Well, you’ll want to use the Gruž harbor parking and take the bus in like everyone else – don’t even think about driving into the old town.
The staff actually knows the building and the neighborhood, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how rare that is. They’ll point you toward the less crowded city wall entrance and tell you which restaurants are worth it versus which ones are tourist traps. Honestly, for a three-star place, it punches way above its weight class. The whole experience feels more like staying at a well-connected friend’s place than a typical hotel – if that friend happened to live in one of the most beautiful cities in Europe.
