You know what struck me first about the Petra design apartment? It’s tucked right into Ulica kneza Hrvaša, which honestly sounds intimidating to pronounce but is actually this quiet little street that somehow manages to be dead center in Dubrovnik’s Old Town without feeling touristy. I mean, you’re literally surrounded by medieval walls and limestone buildings that have been standing since before Columbus sailed anywhere, but the apartment itself feels refreshingly modern.

The design part of the name isn’t just marketing fluff – whoever put this place together actually knows what they’re doing. The space has this clean, contemporary feel that works surprisingly well with the ancient stone architecture outside your windows. I loved how they kept some of the original stonework visible inside while adding sleek fixtures and comfortable furniture that doesn’t scream “vacation rental.” The bathroom was spotless (always my litmus test), and the kitchen was well-equipped enough that I actually used it, which rarely happens when I travel. The bed was properly comfortable too – not one of those rock-hard European mattresses that leave you counting ceiling cracks at 3 AM.

What really sold me on this place was the location, though. You’re about a two-minute walk from Stradun, the main pedestrian street where all the action happens, but when you close the door behind you, it’s genuinely quiet. That’s pretty rare in Old Town, especially during summer when the cruise ships dump thousands of people into those narrow streets every morning. I stayed here in late September and could sleep with the windows open – just the occasional sound of someone’s heels clicking on the stone street below. The building itself is solid stone, so you don’t hear your neighbors either. Parking is… well, it’s Old Town Dubrovnik, so you’ll be using the public lots outside the walls, but that’s just reality anywhere inside these medieval streets. The walk with luggage isn’t bad if you know the route, and the host actually sent really clear directions beforehand.

Honestly, the 9.5 rating makes complete sense once you spend a night here. It’s one of those places where everything just works – the WiFi is fast, the shower has proper pressure, the air conditioning actually cools the space, and there’s enough storage that you can unpack properly. Small details, but they add up when you’re trying to relax on vacation. The hosts were responsive without being hovering, and check-in was smooth even though we arrived later than planned. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I wanted to be right in the heart of things but still have a peaceful place to retreat to after dealing with the crowds at the city walls or down at the harbor.
