Hotel Description
So I stumbled upon Princess Dora’s Apartment during my third trip to Dubrovnik, and honestly? I wish I’d found it sooner. You know that feeling when you’re wandering through Old Town and suddenly realize you’re actually living like a local instead of just passing through? That’s exactly what happened here. The place sits right on Zudioska Street – and if you’ve walked the old city walls, you’ve probably looked down at this exact spot without realizing it. What struck me first was how quiet it gets at night, which is honestly surprising since you’re literally in the heart of everything. I mean, step outside and you’re maybe two minutes from Stradun, but somehow the thick stone walls keep most of the tourist chatter at bay.
The apartment itself has this authentic Dubrovnik feel that a lot of places try to fake but can’t quite pull off. You’ve got these original stone details mixed with modern touches that actually work together – not like some places where they just slap a flat screen on medieval walls and call it renovated. Dora (yeah, she’s a real person, not just a cute name) clearly knows what travelers need because there’s actually counter space in the kitchen and – this sounds small but trust me – decent water pressure in the shower. The 8.9 rating makes total sense once you spend a night here. It’s not trying to be fancy, but everything just works the way it should.
What really sold me was the morning routine I developed there. I’d grab coffee from the little place around the corner on Od Puča (locals go there, so you know it’s good), then walk back through these narrow streets that are still cool and shadowy before the tour groups arrive. You start to notice things – like how the light hits the limestone differently at 7 AM, or how you can actually hear the sea from certain windows when the city’s still waking up. And parking? Well, you’ll need to use the Ilijina Glavica garage like everyone else, but it’s walkable and honestly, you won’t want to drive in Old Town anyway. The whole experience feels less like staying in a hotel and more like borrowing a friend’s place – if that friend happened to live in a UNESCO World Heritage site. For a 3-star spot, it punches way above its weight, and I found myself recommending it to other travelers I met at Buža Bar later that week.
