I mean, you’re in Ploče – which is already the quieter, more residential side of Dubrovnik – but this apartment has this actual private garden that feels like a secret pocket of calm. When I first walked in, honestly, I wasn’t expecting much beyond the usual Croatian apartment rental, but the terrace opens up to this green space that’s surprisingly lush for being so close to the old town walls.

The apartment itself is solid – two proper bedrooms, which is rare in Dubrovnik where most places try to squeeze you into studio situations. The kitchen actually has everything you need if you want to cook (and you should, because the morning market in Gundulićeva is just a ten-minute walk away). What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night. Ploče doesn’t have the constant hum of tourists that you get near Stradun, but you’re still close enough that walking to Pile Gate takes maybe fifteen minutes if you’re not in a hurry. The locals who own it clearly know the area – they pointed me toward this little bakery on Frana Supila that I never would have found otherwise.

Here’s the thing about staying in this part of town: you get to see how Dubrovnik actually works when it’s not performing for cruise ship crowds. In the early morning, before the day-trippers arrive, you can sit on that terrace with your coffee and hear the city waking up – church bells, maybe someone practicing piano, the sound of delivery trucks navigating those narrow streets. The 9.3 rating makes sense when you consider you’re getting space, privacy, and that garden (which, let me tell you, is perfect for evening wine after walking the walls all day). Sure, it’s not right in the heart of the old town, but honestly? After spending time in both areas, I’d choose this setup again. The peace of mind alone is worth the extra few minutes of walking.
