Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about this place? The name actually undersells it. “Renaissance villa with terrace & garden” sounds nice enough, but when you’re standing in that garden at sunset with the Adriatic stretching out in front of you – well, it’s honestly one of those moments that makes you forget to check your phone for a while.

The location on Obala Stjepana Radića is pretty perfect if you know Dubrovnik at all. You’re right on the waterfront promenade, which means you can stumble out for morning coffee and watch the locals doing their daily walk before the cruise ship crowds descend (trust me, timing matters here). The Old Town walls are literally a five-minute stroll away, but here’s the thing – you’re just far enough from the main tourist crush that you can actually sleep at night. I mean, during peak season in July and August, even the stones in Dubrovnik seem to echo with footsteps, but this stretch stays relatively peaceful.

The villa itself has that authentic Dalmatian stone house feel without being stuffy about it. The terrace – and this is where that 9.2 rating really makes sense – faces west toward Lokrum Island, so you’re getting those golden hour views that everyone tries to capture from the city walls, except you’re doing it with a glass of local wine in hand. The garden isn’t huge, but it’s got that Mediterranean thing going with lavender and rosemary that actually smells like Croatia (not like some resort version of it). Honestly, I found myself spending more time there than I’d planned, especially in the early evening when the stone walls still hold the day’s warmth but the sea breeze starts picking up.

Parking can be tricky – this is Dubrovnik, after all – but the hosts seem to know all the local tricks. They pointed me toward a spot near the Pile Gate that I never would have found otherwise. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too; none of that formal hotel desk business, just people who clearly live here and know their neighborhood inside out. The rooms themselves feel authentically Croatian rather than generically Mediterranean, if that makes sense. Thick walls keep things cool during the day, and you can hear the gentle lapping of the water at night (along with the occasional seagull, but that’s part of the charm).

What really sets this place apart though is how it positions you for exploring beyond the obvious tourist trail. The local konoba just down the street serves better black risotto than half the places in the Old Town, and there’s a small market nearby where you can grab fresh figs and cheese for those terrace breakfasts. The hosts mentioned that most guests end up extending their stay, and honestly, I can see why. It’s got that rare combination of being special enough to feel like a treat, but comfortable enough that you’re not constantly worried about disturbing some museum-piece perfection. Four stars feels about right – it’s not trying to be a luxury resort, just a really well-done slice of authentic Dubrovnik life.

Reviews

  • It’s a one time opportunity to stay in a palace like this one. – Jadran from Croatia – 26 April 2024 (10/10)

The best thing is that we stay in renaissance palace five centuries old. It has a huge garden with many plants and trees and big terrace with wonderful view on harbour. There is a parking in front of the place.

  • Very good – Oleksii from Finland – 10 June 2024 (8/10)

The accommodation was very authentic, my wife and I liked it, the apartment had everything we needed for our stay. A very interesting experience, living in such apartments, we feel like a count and countess of the 18th century.

What could be improved: The only problem was that it was impossible to open the windows and it was a little stuffy

  • Very good – Adiba from Germany – 12 August 2023 (8/10)

The location is great. Good connection with all places in Dubrovnik. The Villa itself was mesmerizing. The terrace was a great change for us. Loved out stay there.

What could be improved: Although it was a fun experience to live in this really old villa, the hosts can try a bit more to increase the facility quality. Like renovation of bathroom a bit, without altering the original essence of the building.

  • Exceptional – Ivana from Czech Republic – 19 August 2023 (10/10)

Naprosto nádherné ubytování, misto má užasné genia loci, pro milovníky historii. Spojení do starého města je bez problémů městským autobusem.

  • Exceptional – Chris from Netherlands – 11 August 2023 (10/10)

Authentiek gebouw met erg mooie details.

  • Very good – Febin from Germany – 8 June 2024 (8/10)
