Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of places in Dubrovnik’s Old Town, and Room Annette on Prijeko Street is one of those finds that actually gets it right. You know how most accommodations in the historic center either cost a fortune or feel like you’re sleeping in someone’s cramped storage room? This place strikes that sweet spot – it’s got character without the boutique hotel price tag, and honestly, the location is pretty much perfect if you want to be in the thick of things.

Prijeko Street is this narrow cobblestone lane that runs parallel to the main drag (Stradun), and it’s lined with restaurants that locals actually eat at, not just tourist traps. I mean, you’ll still find plenty of overpriced seafood, but there’s also that little bakery two doors down that does incredible burek in the morning – the smell drifts right up to the rooms around 7 AM, which is either wonderful or torture depending on your hunger levels. The thing about staying right here is you can stumble home after dinner without navigating those slippery stones in the dark (trust me, that matters after a few glasses of Croatian wine). Plus, you’re literally a two-minute walk from the Rector’s Palace and maybe five minutes from the city walls – no need for those crowded shuttle buses or taxi rides.

What surprised me about Room Annette is how they’ve managed to keep things authentic without sacrificing comfort. The building itself is old – like, really old – so you get those thick stone walls that keep things cool during summer and give you that genuine medieval vibe. But the rooms are well-maintained, clean, and the beds are actually comfortable (not always a given in historic properties). The staff genuinely knows the area too, which sounds obvious but you’d be amazed how many places just hand you a generic tourist map. They’ll tell you which restaurants to avoid during cruise ship rush hours, or point you toward the best spot on the walls for sunset photos before the crowds figure it out.

Now, let’s be real – this is Old Town Dubrovnik, so you’re going to hear some street noise, especially during summer evenings when the restaurants get busy. It’s not obnoxious, more like the soundtrack of a living, breathing historic city. And parking? Well, you’ll be leaving your car outside the walls like everyone else, but they’ll give you proper directions to the closest lot and tell you the real walking time (not the optimistic estimate most places give). The 8.2 rating makes sense to me – it’s not luxury, but it’s solid, authentic, and the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying in Dubrovnik, not just visiting it. For a 3-star property in this location, honestly, you’re getting good value and a genuine experience.

  This air conditioned apartment was very centrally located in the old city. We did not meet the host or any member of staff which was a bit strange. The main front door key is left in a lockbox by the front door for each of the apartments to use and keys to individual apartments are in lockboxes by each door.
  Vouchers are provided for a simple breakfast which is served in a nearby cafe.
  
  What could be improved: No contact with the host was a bit strange as there was no one to ask for advice on local facilities.
