You know what? I was honestly a bit skeptical when I first saw Room Lana’s address on Ulica Hanibala Lucića – I mean, it’s right in the thick of Old Town, and I figured it’d be one of those tourist traps where you’re paying for location and getting cardboard walls. But walking up to this little 4-star gem, tucked away just off the main drag, I actually felt that rare flutter of “oh, this might be good.” The entrance has this understated elegance – none of that gaudy marble you see everywhere else in Dubrovnik, just clean lines and this gorgeous old stone that makes you feel like you’re stepping into someone’s well-curated home rather than another hotel.

The thing about staying right in Old Town is that you’re literally living inside a UNESCO World Heritage site, which sounds romantic until you realize your Uber can’t actually drive to your door (spoiler: no cars allowed inside the walls). But here’s where Room Lana gets it right – they actually help coordinate your luggage situation, and honestly, once you’re settled in, you’ll never want to leave anyway. The rooms have this perfect balance of modern comfort and historical character – I’m talking exposed stone walls that have probably seen more drama than a Croatian soap opera, but with air conditioning that actually works and WiFi that doesn’t cut out every five minutes. The bathroom situation is particularly well done; they’ve managed to fit everything you need without making it feel like an airplane lavatory, which is honestly impressive given that these buildings are centuries old.

What really sold me on this place, though, was the morning routine. Step outside and you’re maybe a two-minute walk from Stradun – that’s the main pedestrian street where all the tour groups congregate – but here’s the insider thing: if you wake up early enough (like 7 AM early), you can have those famous limestone streets almost to yourself. There’s this little bakery just around the corner that opens at 6:30, and grabbing fresh burek while the city’s still sleepy is pretty much the perfect way to start your day. The location also means you’re close enough to the city walls that you can pop back to your room during the midday heat – trust me, Dubrovnik in summer is no joke, and having a retreat this close to everything is clutch. The staff seemed to really know their stuff about timing too; they’d casually mention things like “maybe avoid the walls between 11 and 3” or “the sunset from Fort Lovrijenac is worth the walk tonight.” I mean, you’re paying for that 8.8 rating, but you’re getting genuine local insight that makes the whole experience feel less touristy and more like you’ve got friends in the city.

  What could be improved: There was a bit of a damp smell, the shower door wouldn't shut correctly and water would go over the bathroom floor. On the day of check out (which is 10am) the owner had came to check if we had left at about 8am and at 9am, making us feel rushed to leave.

  Be ware of the numbers of steps you will have to climb.
