You know what struck me first about Sola? It’s tucked away on Ulica Jurja Klovića in Sustjepan, which honestly is perfect because you’re close enough to walk into Old Town but far enough to escape the cruise ship crowds that flood Stradun every morning. I mean, staying right in the old city sounds romantic until you’re trying to sleep at 2 AM with drunk tourists singing outside your window.

The apartment itself is exactly what “cozy” should mean – not cramped, just intimate and thoughtfully arranged. The views are genuinely spectacular, looking out over the Adriatic with those classic terracotta rooftops cascading down the hillside. I spent way too many mornings just standing on the balcony with coffee, watching the ferry boats head toward the islands. The owner clearly knows what travelers actually need too – proper WiFi that doesn’t cut out during video calls, a kitchen stocked with real basics (not just a sad coffee maker), and those blackout curtains that actually block the summer sunrise if you want to sleep in. The bed was comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up with that stiff neck you get from questionable hotel mattresses.

Getting there is straightforward once you know the trick – if you’re driving, park down by the harbor and walk up, because those narrow streets weren’t designed for rental cars and stressed-out tourists with GPS. The local bus stops pretty close by, and honestly, walking into the old town takes maybe fifteen minutes through some lovely residential areas where you’ll see actual Dubrovnik life happening. What I really appreciated was how quiet the neighborhood gets in the evenings – you can hear the sea and maybe some distant conversation from nearby terraces, but none of that party noise that plagues the more touristy spots. The whole area feels lived-in and authentic, with little konobas nearby where locals actually eat and grocery shops that don’t charge tourist prices for basic supplies. It’s the kind of place where you can imagine actually living for a while, not just surviving between sightseeing sessions.
