Hotel Description

Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect from Studio apartment Portofino when I first walked up to 76 Obala Ivana Pavla II – I mean, the address sounds pretty formal, right? But you know what hit me immediately? The location is absolutely perfect. You’re literally on the waterfront promenade that runs along Dubrovnik’s newer harbor area, and I’m talking about a five-minute walk to the Old Town walls. The apartment itself sits in this quiet residential building that somehow manages to feel tucked away despite being right where all the action is. What I loved most was stepping out onto that little balcony in the morning with my coffee and watching the local fishing boats head out while the cruise ships were still sleeping – there’s something genuinely peaceful about that hour before the city wakes up.

The studio itself is… well, it’s exactly what you’d want after spending your days wandering around those ancient stone streets. Clean lines, modern kitchen that actually works (I made pasta one night and didn’t have to hunt for a decent pan), and a bed that didn’t leave me feeling like I’d been sleeping on cobblestones. The bathroom’s compact but well-designed, with one of those rainfall showers that actually has good water pressure – honestly, after a day of climbing up to Fort Lovrijenac, that matters more than you’d think. The whole space has these big windows that let in amazing light, and since you’re facing the water, you get these gorgeous sunset views without the noise from the main tourist strips. I actually found myself hanging out there in the evenings instead of always heading out to the bars in Stradun.

Here’s what really sets this place apart though – the owner clearly knows Dubrovnik. There’s a folder with actual useful information, not just the standard tourist pamphlets. Like, they’ll tell you that the best burek is at the little bakery two streets over on Branitelja Dubrovnika, or that if you walk ten minutes toward Gruž port, there’s a morning market where locals actually shop. The 9.5 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed here because it’s those small touches that add up. The Wi-Fi doesn’t cut out when you’re trying to video call home, there’s decent air conditioning (crucial in summer), and the check-in process was refreshingly straightforward. I mean, parking can be a bit tricky in this area – you’ll probably end up using the paid lot about a ten-minute walk away – but that’s just Dubrovnik for you. The apartment strikes this perfect balance between being close enough to everything you want to see but far enough from the cruise ship crowds that you can actually relax. If you’re looking for a place that feels more like a temporary home than a hotel room, and you want to experience Dubrovnik like someone who actually lives there rather than just passing through, this studio delivers exactly that.

Reviews

  • Comfortable accommodation close to port and bus station – Elizabeth from United Kingdom – 7 July 2025 (10/10)

Just stayed one night but lovely place to stay with some nice homely touches such as books to read.

  • Exceptional – Aubrey from United Kingdom – 16 June 2025 (10/10)

I had a great night at this apartment. It was super clean and modern. Also, communicating with Jenny was very fast and reliable. Overall, I had a very comfortable stay.

  • Wonderful apartment with easy bus links to the Old Town. – Troy from United Kingdom – 13 June 2025 (10/10)

This is a beautiful apartment. Nicely decorated and really comfortable. It’s ground floor, so no carrying suitcases up stairs. It’s also just a few minutes walk from the main bus station in Dubrovnik and buses head to the old town every 10 minutes or so.

What could be improved: Nothing. It’s fantastic.

  • Superb – Yuk from Australia – 9 June 2025 (9/10)

The host was very helpful. The location is close to the bus stop to the old town and the ferry port. My wife loved the kitchen, and the washing & dryer machines.

    What could be improved: None

  • Exceptional – Carlos from Brazil – 5 June 2025 (10/10)

It has everything you need, a bathroom and an en suite. All the appliances for a long stay. It's a three minute walk from the central bus station. If you fly in, take the airport bus (€10) and get off at the last stop. The host is very friendly, always helpful. Don't be fooled by the "curb side appeal" of the building, it's excellent. The bus to Old Town is basically at your door step, you can be there in 5 minutes. There's a big supermarket beside the bus station, there are shops, restaurants. I would definitely stay there again.

What could be improved: Well… I'm 1,94 so the shower stall was a little small for me, but again, most things are (airplane, bus seats, beds…). If you are a "normal sized person" as my wife says, you should have no problems. Let me emphasize that this is not really a problem, I'm used to things being small for me.

  • Exceptional – Ing from Singapore – 18 May 2025 (10/10)

Lovely apartment, spacious, tastefully decorated, and well equipped. Even provides washer, dryer, kitchen utensils, tourist info booklets. Located near main bus station, port, and a bus stop with buses going to the old town. Special thanks to the awesome host Jenny, who has kindly gone out of her way to help us locate car agency for car return and even contact them when there is no one at the office. She is always ready to help and quick in response. Highly recommended place to stay if you are visiting Dubrovnik.

  • great – Helena from Finland – 7 May 2025 (10/10)

Very easy to find, easy check in and out. Clean apartment, comfortable bed, two toilets. Shower with warm water and wifi work well. In kitchen you can find all basic utensils, coffee, complimentary snacks and water. (but you can also drink tap water, it is tasty)

Location is next to bus station, so if you have early/late bus, this is an excellent option. You can store luggage at bus station.

If you want to enjoy the view from windows, this apartment doesn't suit to you, because there are no windows. But we stayed there just to sleep overnight, so this was no problem.

Bed is comfortable and and area is quiet. Apartment is next to road, but at nigth there is not much traffic.

What could be improved: Air was not very fresh. You need to open the entrance door if you want to ventilate apartment.

  • Great little apartment – Gail from United Kingdom – 25 April 2025 (10/10)

Easy to find from bus station. No stairs. Easy access via lock box key. I felt safe.

    What could be improved: –

  • Everything you could need for your time in Dubrovnik – Rebecca from United Kingdom – 15 April 2025 (10/10)

Great location for the bus station, lots of storage, lots of information booklets to find out things to do in Dubrovnik, nice little touches like some bottles of water in the fridge and all the appliances you could need for a long or short stay.

What could be improved: Little bit dark due to the small windows but not really an issue for us at all!

  • Very good – Takafumi from Japan – 14 April 2025 (10/10)

The room is very clean and enough activity. And location is nearly a bus station it’s very convenient.
The owner is very kind thank you for everything.
