Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first spotted Studio Apartment Pupa tucked away on Od Šorte street, I almost walked right past it. The entrance is pretty understated, which actually turned out to be a good thing since you’re literally in the heart of Old Town without all the tourist chaos right at your doorstep. And trust me, during peak season that matters more than you’d think. The space itself is… well, it’s a studio, so don’t expect to spread out like you’re in some fancy resort, but there’s something really charming about how efficiently everything’s laid out. The owner clearly knows what travelers actually need – I mean, there’s proper counter space in the kitchenette (you’d be surprised how rare that is), and the shower pressure is honestly better than some four-star places I’ve stayed at. What really got me though was stepping out in the morning and realizing I could grab coffee at that little café near Rector’s Palace and be back in literally three minutes.

The location is where this place really shines, and I don’t mean that in some generic “convenient location” way. You’re positioned perfectly to duck in and out of your room between exploring – something you’ll definitely want to do because walking those stone streets in summer heat is no joke. The ancient walls are close enough that you can hear the tour groups during the day, but it’s not intrusive, more like a gentle reminder that you’re staying somewhere pretty incredible. Evenings are when the magic really happens though. Once the day-trippers head back to their cruise ships around 6 PM, the whole area transforms. You can actually hear conversations from the restaurants instead of just tourist chatter, and there’s this lovely echo of music drifting from the bars near Stradun. The WiFi works great (tested it during a work call), and surprisingly, the thick stone walls keep things pretty quiet at night. Just so you know, parking isn’t really an option in Old Town – you’ll need to use one of the lots outside the walls and walk in, but honestly, that’s true for anywhere decent inside the historic area.

What sets Pupa apart from other places I’ve tried in Dubrovnik is that it feels like staying in someone’s carefully thought-out home rather than a sterile rental. The 8.5 rating makes perfect sense – it’s not trying to be luxury, but everything works exactly as it should. The air conditioning keeps up even in July heat, there’s enough storage for a week’s worth of clothes, and the building itself has this wonderful old-world character without being uncomfortably antiquated. You know what really impressed me? The shower has one of those rainfall heads, and after a long day of climbing the city walls, that felt absolutely perfect. If you’re looking for a pool or room service, obviously look elsewhere, but if you want to actually live in Old Town for a few days rather than just visit it, this little studio hits that sweet spot between authentic and comfortable.

  • Perfect! Would stay again without hesitation – loved it! – Cate from United Kingdom – 9 June 2025 (10/10)

Fantastic location – couldn’t have been better! Beautiful side street in the old town, 2 mins walk to a little supermarket, bakers, Buza Bar and the old town sights.
Table and chairs to sit outside – this was our favourite feature that made this apartment perfect for us – we loved being able to sit outside for morning coffee and breakfast etc.

What could be improved: N/A – Loved everything!

  • Very good – Belinda from Australia – 31 May 2025 (8/10)

What could be improved: Steps Haha

  • I would come back to this accommodation anytime. overall excellent – Andra from Romania – 23 October 2024 (9/10)

very cozy location. clean, quiet area. easy to find.

What could be improved: I would have liked the bathroom to be equipped with shower gel and shampoo

  • Very good – Petr from Czech Republic – 20 November 2023 (8/10)

Excellent location, really beutiful hidden street, close to everywhere. The room was in the basement, window directly to the street. The street was a bit steep, which, however, was making it chracteristically attractive. We liked the interior, stone, wood, small details, small fireplace with the chimney (although it was not meant to be used).

What could be improved: The only negative was the smell of mold in the room. After airing out for a longer time, the smell lessened, but we would still prefer if something could be done about it. However, walking around the streets of Dubrovnik and smelling, we realized that this might be a widespread issue in the old town, considering how water flows through the city on rainy days (btw, see youtube videos on floods in Dubrovnik).

  • A very convenient location and a comfortable apartment – Clare from United Kingdom – 20 May 2023 (10/10)

Very close to the centre of the historic city with lots of museums, restaurants and cafes very close by. Beach was just a short walk away too

What could be improved: The steps up to the apartment were challenging with bags but that is the nature of the city and added to the adventure o the trip

  • Very good – Shanae from Australia – 26 June 2025 (8/10)

    Apartment was clean and comfortable

What could be improved: A lot of stairs to climb if you have heavy bags it could be a struggle.

  • Dubrovnik is an amazing city to visit – Jackie from Ireland – 19 June 2025 (9/10)

    Location

What could be improved: Only 1 towel each , no hand towel . Breakfast delivered between 7 am and 9 am . We left at 7:45 am and no sign of it so missed out . I did ask for it earlier but they could not guarantee early delivery

  • Good – Johnny from United Kingdom – 24 April 2025 (8/10)

    Homely vibe

What could be improved: Exit light at the entrance was very bright which disturbed our sleep

  • Incredible stay in a beautiful area – Martin from United Kingdom – 27 October 2024 (10/10)

Fantastic Location in a quieter area of the old town

What could be improved: Quite small but to be expected given its location. Not much room for storage

  • Superb – Julie from Australia – 1 October 2023 (9/10)

This is a fantastic little studio in a quiet laneway close to the city walls, yet only a short walk back down to the main street of the historic town and the local swimming spot. It was comfortable, private and cool in the summer heat. Good aircon, and a reasonable sized kitchen. The bathroom is small, but the shower is good. The management team were incredibly friendly and helpful with advice about what to do in Dubrovnik and the best places to eat and see.

What could be improved: Perhaps there's no need for such a large dining table in a small studio apartment, but otherwise this is a great spot.
