You know what struck me first about Sunny Villa? The name actually undersells it – I mean, sure, it’s sunny and villa-ish, but when you’re standing on that terrace looking out over the Adriatic with Dubrovnik’s old town glowing in the distance, “sunny villa” feels like calling the Grand Canyon a “nice hole.” The place sits up in Gornji Prijevor, which honestly I’d never heard of before booking, but it turns out to be this perfect sweet spot about 15 minutes from the chaos of Stradun where you can actually hear yourself think.

The pool is what sold me initially – and I’m glad it did because it’s genuinely great, not one of those sad rectangle things you sometimes get. It’s actually big enough to swim laps if you’re into that, though I mostly just floated around with a beer watching the sunset paint everything gold. The BBQ setup is proper too, not just some tiny camping grill – we’re talking serious grilling real estate here, which came in handy when we grabbed fresh fish from the market near Pile Gate. Speaking of practical stuff, the parking situation is a godsend because anyone who’s tried to navigate Dubrovnik’s old town with a rental car knows it’s basically impossible. Here you just pull up, park, and you’re done – no circling around ancient streets built for donkeys.

What really makes this place though is how it sits in the landscape. You’re close enough to walk down to Lapad Bay for those morning coffee runs (there’s this little café that does incredible burek if you take the path down through the residential area), but far enough up the hillside that you feel removed from the tourist madness. The 9.3 rating makes sense once you’ve been there – it’s not flashy or trying too hard, just genuinely comfortable with those details that matter when you’re actually living somewhere for a week. The kitchen is properly equipped, not just for show, and the bedrooms stay cool even during those brutal August afternoons. I actually found myself hanging out on the terrace even during the hottest part of the day because there’s always this breeze coming off the water. The only thing I’d warn about is that if you’re planning to walk everywhere, you’re looking at some serious hills – but honestly, after a few days your legs adjust and you realize you’re getting the best views in Dubrovnik without paying old town prices.
