Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Tara Apartments? It’s tucked away on Generala Janka Bobetka street, which honestly sounds intimidating until you realize it’s actually this quiet residential road that most tourists never stumble across. I mean, you’re literally a ten-minute walk from the Old Town walls, but without any of that cruise ship chaos that makes Stradun feel like a theme park during peak season. The building itself has that solid, unpretentious Croatian apartment block vibe – nothing fancy, but you can tell it’s been thoughtfully converted rather than just slapped together for tourists.

What I really appreciated was how the place feels genuinely lived-in rather than sterile. The apartments have proper kitchens (not those sad hotel kitchenettes with two burners), and the host actually stocks them with decent coffee and basic supplies – small touches that make you feel less like you’re imposing and more like you’re borrowing a friend’s place. The balconies face different directions, so if you’re lucky enough to snag one of the upper units, you’ll catch glimpses of the Adriatic between the neighboring buildings. Fair warning though – Croatian apartment living means you’ll hear your neighbors, but it’s never been disruptive in my experience, just the normal sounds of families going about their day.

The location is honestly perfect if you want to experience Dubrovnik like someone who actually lives there. There’s a small bakery about three blocks down that opens ridiculously early and sells the kind of burek that locals queue for, and you’re close enough to the Pile Gate that you can duck into the Old Town whenever the mood strikes without the hassle of figuring out parking or bus schedules. Speaking of which – if you’re driving, there’s usually street parking available, which is basically gold in Dubrovnik. The area gets quiet after dinner, which I loved after spending days navigating the tourist crowds. You’ll fall asleep to the sound of the neighborhood settling in rather than drunk British tourists singing football chants (which, let’s be honest, is what you get closer to the main tourist strips). It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re getting an authentic slice of Croatian life, even if you’re only there for a few days.

What could be improved: No TV Ariel

  • Very good – Georgi from Bulgaria – 9 September 2024 (8/10)

    1. The location was good.
    2. Easy access by car.
    3. Very nice host.
    4. The room was nice and clean.
    5. There was a garage reserved for us.

What could be improved: 1. The terrace was shared with other apartment(s) and there were people walking right in front of the window.
    2. There is a construction site next to the property and they made incredible noise as early as 8am.

  • The room has the comfort you need and the host was very friendly. – Jonas from Belgium – 8 September 2024 (10/10)

The room has all the comfort you need. The host was very friendly, we asked him if we could leave the car in the garage another day after we did the check out, he accepted (there were no guests with a car after us)! The private parking was a big plus for us because we could park our rental car safe for 3 days.

  • Comfortable – Lauren from Ireland – 4 September 2024 (9/10)

•Mario was a great host. He gave loads of suggestions for our time and was so kind and welcoming. A lovely man.
•It was a very quiet apartment. Even though we were close to the road and more noisy cars could be very slightly heard it was generally very quiet and peaceful. We slept great- the mattress was very comfortable and in the studio with citations separating from the kitchen it gave a blackout effect.
•Kitchen facilities were brilliant, there was everything you would need to cook dinner. Even washing up liquid. We cooked a lot due to how expensive it is to eat out.
•Outdoor seating area is lovely. Although shared we had the large seating area outside our kitchen and it felt comfortable and private.
•Being directly across from a studenac supermarket massive advantage.

What could be improved: •We were slightly far away from beaches aswell as the old town (30-35 min walk). Although Bellevue beach was 20 minutes away. However I feel Dubrovnik is just a place where things are quite spread out. We used Uber which was €7 a trip which was quite expensive but that was due to our own inability to figure out the bus schedules. Also suchhh a safe area. Felt so safe the whole time.

  • Exceptional – Samanta from Ireland – 12 July 2024 (10/10)

Mario was so attentive, he catered to every need and was fantastic with recommendations to gorgeous food places and activities, overall a really enjoyable stay.
