Tere Apartment

You know what? I’ve stayed in a lot of places around Dubrovnik, and Tere Apartment really surprised me. It’s tucked away on Ulica kneza Domagoja in Lapad – honestly, when I first saw the address I thought “great, another tourist trap” – but this neighborhood is actually where you want to be if you’re smart about it. Lapad Peninsula is far enough from the Old Town madness that you can actually sleep at night, but close enough that you’re not spending half your vacation budget on taxis.

The apartment itself feels like someone’s Croatian grandmother decided to become really good at hospitality. I mean that in the best way possible – everything’s spotless, there’s this attention to detail that you just don’t get in chain hotels, and the whole place has that lived-in comfort that makes you want to stay in your pajamas until noon. The kitchen actually works (I’ve been burned before), and they stock it with proper coffee – not that instant stuff that makes you question your life choices. What really got me was the little touches: local olive oil in the cupboard, fresh towels that smell like lavender, and windows that open wide enough to let in that Mediterranean breeze without the street noise. The rating of 9.8 isn’t just people being nice – it’s deserved.

Here’s the thing about Lapad that most tourists miss: you’re a twenty-minute bus ride from Pile Gate, but you’re also walking distance from Lapad Beach, which is where actual Dubrovnik residents go to swim. There’s a little market on Šetalište Kralja Zvonimira where you can grab groceries without paying Old Town prices, and honestly, some of the best seafood I had was at the family-run konoba just down the hill. The buses run regularly during the day (though they get packed in July and August – fair warning), and if you’re the type who likes evening walks, the coastal path along Lapad Bay is absolutely perfect when the sun’s setting. Parking around here isn’t the nightmare it is closer to the walls, which matters if you’re renting a car to explore the coast. I actually ended up extending my stay an extra two nights because leaving felt premature – and that’s coming from someone who usually gets restless after three days anywhere.
