Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about The a View? The name’s a bit quirky – honestly, I think something got lost in translation – but once you’re standing on that first-floor terrace on Put Izvora, you completely get it. This place is all about that stunning Adriatic panorama stretching out in front of you, and I mean, it really delivers on that promise.

The location is actually pretty brilliant if you know Dubrovnik at all. Put Izvora isn’t one of those touristy streets where you’re dodging cruise ship crowds, but you’re still close enough to walk into the Old Town without breaking a sweat. It’s maybe a 10-minute stroll down to the city walls, and there’s this little bakery around the corner that locals hit up for morning coffee – I stumbled across it by accident and ended up going back three times. The hotel itself feels more like a boutique guesthouse than your typical 4-star setup, which I actually preferred. Check-in was refreshingly personal, not that sterile front-desk routine you get at chain hotels.

The rooms have this Mediterranean charm without being overly themed, if that makes sense. Mine had these gorgeous wooden shutters that opened right onto the water view, and honestly, I spent way too much time just sitting there with my morning coffee watching the fishing boats head out. The beds are genuinely comfortable – I’m picky about this stuff – and the bathrooms are modern without feeling clinical. What I really appreciated was the attention to small details: proper blackout curtains (crucial for those bright Adriatic mornings), decent water pressure, and outlets where you actually need them. The AC works well too, which matters more than you’d think during those humid July nights.

Here’s the thing about staying here versus somewhere in the Old Town – yeah, you’re not literally inside the walls, but you’re also not dealing with the late-night noise from all the bars and restaurants. Put Izvora gets pretty quiet after sunset, which means you’ll actually sleep. Plus, parking is way less of a nightmare up here if you’re driving, though I’d still recommend just walking everywhere once you’re settled in. The staff gave me solid recommendations for restaurants that weren’t just tourist traps – there’s this family-run konoba about five minutes away that serves the best black risotto I had in Croatia.

The 8 rating feels about right to me. It’s not perfect – the WiFi can be spotty in some rooms, and the breakfast spread is decent but nothing extraordinary. But for the price point and that view… I mean, I’ve paid twice as much for hotel rooms with windows facing parking lots. If you’re the type who wants to be right in the thick of things every second, maybe look closer to Stradun. But if you appreciate having a peaceful base with easy access to everything Dubrovnik offers, The a View hits that sweet spot perfectly.

Reviews

  • Comfortable stay with gorgeous views! – Megan from Australia – 13 September 2024 (9/10)

The host was very responsive and helpful, met us upon arrival and showed us around. The accommodation had a gorgeous view! Just note it is a few minutes walk from the bus (a direct bus into the old town) and a steep walk up a few driveways, so if you don't have a car get ready to lug that suitcase up!
Ultimately, nothing bad to say though. It was clean, a/c worked well, amazing view, would highly recommend!

    What could be improved: N/A

  • Great view – Helen from United Kingdom – 27 September 2023 (8/10)

The views where amazing, it had everything you need close to a bus stop for access to centre waterfalls close by

What could be improved: It was hilly to get to so not for people who struggle on there feet

  • Good value stay to visit Dubrovnik – William from United Kingdom – 21 August 2023 (9/10)

Great views, comfortable and easy to get to Dubrovnik on the local bus

What could be improved: Hot water taps were extremely hot

  • Superb – Dorela from Albania – 20 August 2022 (9/10)

  • Apartment 20min by bus from Dubrovnik – Filippo from Italy – 26 July 2022 (8/10)

The apartment is fully equipped and the view is amazing.

What could be improved: The hosts started writing in english but then turned the comunication in croatian even if we said that we don't know croatian. However when we arrived they were able to speak in english but when we were about to leave the apartment they started again to write in croatian. The choice to write voluntarily in croatian is something that i can't appreciate.

  • Great view, need to climb a hill but the view worth it – Mariam from Netherlands – 14 October 2023 (7/10)

The view is really great during the day and night, Well equipped, the landlady so helpful we had a small issue and she cane and solved it immediately, and there is a bus stop 4 minutes a way from the property, u can take number 1A or 1B to the old city.

What could be improved: It’s on top of up hill and all the Uber’s that we asked to drop us there didn’t climb it but still it’s manageable without luggage 😅.

  • Exceptional – Nour from United Kingdom – 9 September 2024 (10/10)

the host and her husband were very friendly and help , the apartment was fully furnished and clean and the view was amazing and not very far from the old town 15 minutes by car.

What could be improved: to get to the property by car or by walk was hard as it on top a steep hill and to get in and out the parking was very very challenging for us especially with a rented car as we not use to it the owner saw our struggle and helped us few time drive it in and out the parking but it was difficult for me and I end it up scratching the front and the back wings badly 😢 I hope it had easier parking. we liked the property but the parking put us off.

  • Fab apartment – Jennifer from United Kingdom – 12 August 2023 (10/10)

The view was amazing and the apartment had everything we needed for a 2 night stay. The beds and pillows were so comfortable and the shutters on the windows blocked out the light at night so we had a perfect sleep. As others have said, the driveway is a little steep but well worth it for the amazing views from the balcony. The bus stop to and from town is only a short walk away and only 2 euros each way or ubers are readily available. I would recommend a trip to the local restaurant "Fat Bast#rds smokehouse and grill" which is only a 5 minute walk away.

  • Exceptional – Niamh from United Kingdom – 1 September 2022 (10/10)

Stunning views, very clean and comfortable

  • Great view but no sun in balcony – Diane from United Kingdom – 4 September 2023 (5/10)

Room was well equipped for sleeping tnere,

What could be improved: We arrived after travelling from England a good 12 hours it was late at night. We were very tired. We arrived in the vicinity of the apartment but there was no lighting,it was pitch black, we were walking up and down properties shining our torches into other people's accommodation,I rang a number i had from booking.com but no answer. After 10 minutes of us searching a grumpy lady appeared, when I complained about the difficulty we had trying to the place, she simply replied with "well you have a map, pictures and contact details" maybe if we could see anything that would have been reasonable ,given we were very tired, we took the keys and couldn't wait for her to !leave us alone to sleep, not the best greeting or start for guests. Apart from this we have no other complaints everything else was good.
