Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about The Loft? It’s tucked away on Ulica branitelja Dubrovnika, which honestly sounds intimidating if you don’t speak Croatian, but it’s actually this quiet residential street that feels worlds away from the tourist chaos down in the Old Town. I mean, you’re still close enough to walk to Pile Gate in maybe 15 minutes, but you get to escape back to this peaceful neighborhood where actual locals live and hang their laundry on balconies. The building itself has that understated elegance thing going on – not trying too hard to scream “boutique hotel” but clearly someone put thought into the design. When I walked into the lobby, there was this subtle scent of cedar and something floral (lavender maybe?) that immediately made me feel like I could actually relax here.
The rooms live up to the “loft” name with these gorgeous high ceilings and exposed beams that somehow don’t feel gimmicky. My room had this amazing view toward the Adriatic – well, sort of a side view, but on a clear morning you could definitely see the water glinting between the cypress trees. The bed was one of those where you sink in just enough without feeling like you’re being swallowed, and honestly, after trudging around Dubrovnik’s marble streets all day, that matters more than you’d think. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stayed at night. You’d expect some noise since you’re still in the city, but the street is residential enough that by 10 PM it’s just the occasional car and maybe some distant music from the bars down the hill. The bathroom had this rainfall shower that actually had proper pressure – I know that sounds like a small thing, but after staying in some old European hotels where the water barely trickles out, it was heaven.
Here’s what really sets The Loft apart though: the staff actually knows the area. When I asked about avoiding the cruise ship crowds at the city walls, the front desk guy (Marko, I think?) didn’t just say “go early” like every guidebook. He told me exactly which entrance to use and mentioned this little café on Prijeko Street where locals grab coffee before work – completely off the tourist radar but with better pastries than anywhere in Stradun. The whole place feels like someone’s stylish friend let you crash at their impeccably decorated apartment, except with daily housekeeping and a proper concierge. It’s got that 4-star polish without being stuffy, and that 8.8 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there a few days. Sure, you’re paying a bit more than some places, but when you’re in Dubrovnik during peak season and you can walk home to peace and quiet after dealing with Game of Thrones tour groups all day, it’s absolutely worth it.

The apartment’s location is ideal—close to the old town, scenic hiking trails, and beautiful beaches. Spotlessly clean and well-organized, it made for a comfortable and hassle-free experience. Communication with the host was excellent, with prompt responses ensuring everything went smoothly.
Superb – Christopher from United Kingdom – 21 August 2024 (9/10)
Air conditioning in all rooms. Small and compact kitchen. 5 minute walk to the walls and a beach. Perfect for a family with teenagers. Nice to have your own separate terrace although it was too hot to use. Great to have a parking space.
What could be improved: There are approx 30-40 steps from the road to the apartment which may not be suitable for the elderly or families with young children.Very good – Michelle from United Kingdom – 14 June 2024 (8/10)
