Hotel Description

You know what really caught me off guard about The Soldo’s? I mean, I’ve stayed in plenty of four-star places in Croatia, but this one actually feels like someone’s incredibly stylish home rather than a hotel. It’s tucked away on Rudimira Rotera – which honestly, most tourists have never heard of – and that’s exactly why it works so well. You’re close enough to the Old Town that you can easily walk there (maybe 10-15 minutes depending on how often you stop to take photos), but far enough that you’re not dealing with the cruise ship crowds stumbling past your window at all hours.

The thing about Dubrovnik is that finding a place with character that isn’t either crazy expensive or completely overrun is tricky, but The Soldo’s sort of nails that sweet spot. The owners clearly put thought into the details – I’m talking about things like actually comfortable beds, not just pretty ones, and bathrooms where you don’t have to do some weird contortion dance to avoid flooding the floor. The breakfast setup is small but thoughtful, with local ingredients that change based on what’s good that day. I had some of the best figs of my life there, actually. The staff genuinely knows the area too, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how rare that is. They pointed me toward this tiny konoba that I never would have found otherwise, and honestly, it ended up being one of my favorite meals of the trip.

What really sets this place apart though is the vibe – it’s got that relaxed Croatian hospitality thing going on without feeling stuffy or overly formal. The common areas have this lived-in elegance, if that makes sense. Good lighting, comfortable seating, books you’d actually want to read. I spent a couple of evenings there just planning the next day’s adventures with a glass of wine, and it felt natural rather than forced. The location means you get a real feel for how locals live – there’s a great little market nearby where you can grab fresh fruit, and the neighborhood has that authentic Dalmatian rhythm that the tourist areas sometimes lack. Plus, parking is way less of a nightmare than if you were staying right in the thick of things. I mean, with a 9.6 rating, you know they’re doing something right, but staying there, you understand it’s not just about the amenities – it’s about creating a space where you can actually relax and enjoy being in Croatia rather than just checking boxes on a sightseeing list.

  • Exceptional – Jesse from United States – 2 June 2025 (10/10)

Location was very close to old city. We could walk to anything. The beds were very comfortable!

  • Three bedroom apartment within 7 mins to Pile Gate. – Kevin from United States – 24 May 2025 (9/10)

Communication with the host. She is good on responding back and within 8-24 hours. The location is about 5 Minuted to the Old Town (Pile gate). 4 mins to the main Pile Gate bus station. Super markets or mini super markets at the bus stop or needing a larger market, head nothing on the main road for about 15 mis (There are also cliffside views of the Adriatic Sea along the way) to the larger Kozum Market. A handful of restaurants and a few cafes less than five mins away. A bakery and even a popular sandwich shop aka the best valued take out spot in town (in case you were not aware, Dubrovnik is pretty expensive town but you will find a few low cost options). The apartment is located off the main road about 100 ft and three steps. Then you will head up one level to the apartment. The kitchen has everything though we did not cook. One bathroom w a washer. Everything in working order and usually the previous guests will leave laundry detergent or condiments behind. There is AC but nicer to open the windows. We ran low on TP and Towels, but after alerting the host, the items came in next day.

  • Fabulous central apartment. – Rachel from United States – 29 September 2024 (10/10)

Beautiful apartment in a wonderful location! It is an easy walk to Pile Gate and the side path to the gate leads to a park like walking trail with ocean views.

What could be improved: Pick up and drop off was a little tricky to coordinate, but that is just how the Pile Gate area is in general. Nothing to be done about it, but it is good to be aware and plan accordingly!

  • Lovely apartment in ideal location – Brian from United Kingdom – 29 August 2024 (9/10)

The location was ideal. Not too far to walk before you reach the centre of Dubrovnik old town. The property was very clean and well presented.

What could be improved: The only small point that would maybe be worth mentioning is some more information would be good inside the apartment to explain which areas outside are available to use to hang swimming towels etc.

  • A lovely apartment within a short distance to Old Town. – Lily from United States – 12 July 2024 (10/10)

The location was excellent. A short walk or bus ride to Old Town. The apartment was very spacious and loved the high ceilings. I wish we could have stayed longer.

What could be improved: Nothing, the accommodations were lovely. The air-conditioning worked well.

  • Amazing location and friendly owner – Andrew from United Kingdom – 2 June 2024 (10/10)

Amazing location, close to the old town but in a quiet peaceful location.
