Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Throne of Dubrovnik? The name sounds almost ridiculously grand for what’s essentially a boutique spot tucked into a medieval stone building, but honestly – it sort of works. Walking down Ulica od Puča (which locals just call “the main drag through Old Town”), you’ll spot it easily enough, though the entrance is more subtle than you’d expect for a place with such a bold name.

The location is actually pretty brilliant if you know Dubrovnik at all. You’re literally steps from Stradun – that polished limestone street where all the tourists flow like water – but tucked just enough off the beaten path that you won’t hear the cruise ship crowds at 6 AM. I mean, you’ll still get some noise because, well, it’s Old Town and sound bounces off those ancient walls in weird ways, but nothing like what you’d deal with right on the main strip. The building itself has that weathered Adriatic charm – thick stone walls that keep things cool even when it’s blazing outside, and you can actually feel the history in the place. Not in a musty way, just… substantial, you know?

What really sells this place, though, is how the staff actually seems to get what travelers need. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward – none of that overly formal hotel theater, just genuine local knowledge about where to grab coffee before the tourist hordes wake up (there’s a tiny place around the corner on Boskovićeva that opens at 7) and which city wall entrance has the shortest lines. The rooms themselves are clean and comfortable without trying too hard to be Instagram-perfect. Think traditional Croatian hospitality meets modern basics – good wifi, decent shower pressure, and beds that don’t feel like they came from a budget chain. The 9.6 rating makes sense when you consider it’s not trying to be a luxury resort; it’s just doing the fundamentals really well in an absolutely prime location.

Honestly, the biggest selling point might be what you can walk to. Rector’s Palace is maybe two minutes away, the cathedral’s even closer, and if you’re into that whole Game of Thrones thing (which, let’s be real, half the people visiting are), you’re basically surrounded by filming locations. But more practically – you can stumble back from dinner at one of the local konobas without navigating crowds or worrying about finding your way through the maze of streets after a few glasses of Plavac Mali. During shoulder season especially, you’ll feel like you have this UNESCO World Heritage site almost to yourself once the day-trippers head back to their ships. The morning light hitting those baroque facades right outside your window? That’s the kind of moment that makes you remember why you travel in the first place.

  • Exceptional hospitality in the heart of the old town – Deidre from Australia – 30 December 2024 (10/10)

My expectations were totally exceeded with this booking. The host, Mili met me personally to hand over keys, provide information about the apartment and the old town, and to ensure everything was to my satisfaction. The apartment is modern, clean and extremely comfortable with the necessary amenities, including Netflix. The location is very central in the old town and it is very easy to get to from either of the two old town gates. I booked many apartments during my travels and this is the best experience I’ve had with an apartment and it’s host by far. Definitely recommend.

What could be improved: Liked everything and even extended my stay by a further three nights. Thank you Mili, your hospitality is exceptional and was much appreciated.

  • Great – Alexey from Croatia – 1 December 2024 (10/10)

Everythings were great! I like attention to little details – 2 pairs of pillows with different height, full bathroom amentities, drinks in the fridge, welcome candy. It is warm in the apartment at the end of November due to AC and heater in the bathroom.

What could be improved: No complains
