Look, I’ll be straight with you about Tomato Old Town entrance – the name might sound quirky, but this little 3-star spot on Brsalje is actually one of those finds that makes you feel like you cracked some local code. I mean, you’re literally steps from Pile Gate, which is the main entrance everyone uses to get into Dubrovnik’s old town, but somehow this place doesn’t feel touristy at all.

The thing that got me right away was how the staff actually seemed to know the city – not just the usual “restaurant is two blocks that way” stuff, but real recommendations. The guy at reception told me about this tiny bakery on Prijeko that opens at 6am, and honestly, those morning walks through empty stone streets with fresh burek in hand became my favorite part of the day. The rooms themselves are clean and comfortable without being fancy – think modern touches in an old building that’s been thoughtfully updated. You can hear the morning bustle from Stradun if you’re facing that direction, but it’s more charming than annoying, sort of like having the city’s heartbeat as your alarm clock.

What really sets this place apart is the location knowledge you get just by staying here. The staff clued me in on the fact that most day-trippers leave by 4pm, so late afternoon is when the old town becomes magical again. They also mentioned (and this saved me probably 30 euros) that there’s free parking at Zagrebačka if you don’t mind a 15-minute walk, versus the paid lots right by Pile that everyone assumes they need to use. The breakfast area overlooks some of the old town walls, and you know what? Sitting there with coffee while watching the first cruise ship passengers shuffle in below… it makes you feel pretty smug about your accommodation choice. Sure, it’s not luxury – the bathroom’s on the smaller side and the AC takes a while to kick in – but for an 8.7 rating, it delivers exactly what you’d hope for. You’re paying for the location and the local insight, not marble countertops, and that trade-off makes total sense when you’re this close to everything that matters in Dubrovnik.

  The location was phenomenal. It was perfect for a solo traveler who wanted to explore old town every day. I walked everywhere pretty easily and felt so safe the whole time as a solo female traveler. The hosts went above and beyond to make sure I had a ride to/from the airport and was enjoying my stay. It was slightly noisy late at night with people leaving bars, but nothing too bad! When I come back to Dubrovnik, I would definitely love to stay here again 🙂

  Amazing location 100 yards from old town gate.

  Host was amazing with great recommendations for what to do & where to eat during our trip. Location was perfect just outside of the old town and bus stop etc. Very quiet which was nice especially considering central location. Would highly recommend !!!!!!

  The location was incredible, better than what we could have hoped for. The room and bathroom were both very clean. The host was also very helpful and kind, we had a medical emergency and she found us an open pharmacy on sunday.

  Perfect location, right next door to the main entrance to the Old Town. Very good for transport connections (and with the windows closed you couldn't hear the buses and taxis). Could see an old fortress across the road, and beyond that the sea.
