Tomato Old Town entrance Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Tomato Old Town entrance on Brsalje Street, you immediately know you’ve found something special. I mean, the name might sound quirky, but the location? Absolutely unbeatable. You’re literally steps away from entering Dubrovnik’s famous Old Town through the Pile Gate — honestly, it doesn’t get much better than this for exploring the city. The building itself has that authentic Croatian charm, and you can feel the energy of Dubrovnik buzzing around you from the moment you arrive.

The Perfect Base

What really struck me about this place is how it sits right at the sweet spot between the Old Town’s historic magic and the practical side of modern travel. You’re close enough to duck into the ancient walls whenever you want, but far enough from the cruise ship crowds that descend on the main squares during peak hours. The Stradun (that’s the main pedestrian street) is just a two-minute walk, and trust me — after a long day of climbing those city walls, you’ll appreciate not having to trek back to some distant hotel. Plus, there’s parking nearby, which anyone who’s driven in Dubrovnik will tell you is basically a miracle.

The Accommodation

The room I stayed in was clean and functional — nothing fancy, but honestly, when you’re in a location this prime, you’re not spending much time indoors anyway. What I appreciated most was how quiet it stayed at night, despite being so central. The windows actually block out most of the street noise, and the air conditioning works well (crucial during those sweltering summer months). The setup is pretty straightforward, but everything you need is there, and the Wi-Fi was reliable throughout my stay.

Exploring from Here

Here’s what I loved about staying here — you can literally roll out of bed and be exploring Rector’s Palace or grabbing coffee on the Stradun before most tourists even finish breakfast. The cable car up to Mount Srđ? Easy walk to the base station. Want to catch the sunset at Buža Bar? You’re already halfway there. I actually found myself popping back to the apartment during the day to drop off shopping bags or grab a quick break, which you just can’t do when you’re staying outside the old city area.

Why Guests Love It

Look, couples absolutely rave about this place, and after staying here, I totally get why they give the location a perfect score. There’s something romantic about being able to wander the ancient streets at night when the day-trippers have gone home, then slip back to your own little corner of the city. The staff genuinely cares about making sure you have what you need, and they’re full of local tips that you won’t find in guidebooks. Sure, it’s not a five-star resort with all the bells and whistles, but when you’re this close to one of Europe’s most beautiful historic centers, who needs a fancy lobby? You’ve got the entire UNESCO World Heritage site as your backyard.

Reviews of Tomato Old Town entrance

  • Exceptional – Sophie from United States – 8 May 2025 (10/10)

The location was phenomenal. It was perfect for a solo traveler who wanted to explore old town every day. I walked everywhere pretty easily and felt so safe the whole time as a solo female traveler. The hosts went above and beyond to make sure I had a ride to/from the airport and was enjoying my stay. It was slightly noisy late at night with people leaving bars, but nothing too bad! When I come back to Dubrovnik, I would definitely love to stay here again 🙂

  • Great location – Kai from United Kingdom – 25 April 2025 (10/10)

Great location, cleanliness of the room and bathroom, friendly host.

  • Great location – Paddythetraveller82 from United Kingdom – 4 September 2024 (9/10)

Amazing location 100 yards from old town gate.
Very quiet considering very busy outside where all buses and coaches stop.

What could be improved: Had to bend down in shower but not too bad as only a small issue

  • Great Location ! – Mj from Croatia – 18 August 2024 (10/10)

Great location, comfortable room , value for money 🙂

  • Exceptional – Heather from Australia – 12 June 2024 (10/10)

Host was amazing with great recommendations for what to do & where to eat during our trip. Location was perfect just outside of the old town and bus stop etc. Very quiet which was nice especially considering central location. Would highly recommend !!!!!!

  • Incredible location, comfy room at a reasonable price – Tulca from Germany – 15 August 2023 (9/10)

The location was incredible, better than what we could have hoped for. The room and bathroom were both very clean. The host was also very helpful and kind, we had a medical emergency and she found us an open pharmacy on sunday.

  • As close to the Old Town as you could possibly get. – Michael from Finland – 12 August 2023 (8/10)

Perfect location, right next door to the main entrance to the Old Town. Very good for transport connections (and with the windows closed you couldn't hear the buses and taxis). Could see an old fortress across the road, and beyond that the sea.

What could be improved: The bathroom was a bit small, and a microwave would have been nice.

  • Fantastic proximity to old town! Mind the shower. – Audrey from United States – 7 August 2023 (8/10)

The location could not have been better!

What could be improved: The bathroom was private but not en-suite, and the shower was nearly impossible for anyone over 5’4” to wash their hair in

  • Exceptional – Steve from Brazil – 12 July 2023 (10/10)

Fantastic location right next to the old town, yet the apartment was very quiet. Wonderful apartment with great facilities. Easy access & our hosts were extremely helpful offering advice & suggestions.
