Hotel Description

You know what really struck me about Velut Home Boket? It’s tucked away on this tiny street called Ulica Između Polača – and honestly, I walked past it twice before realizing I’d found the place. The name literally means “between the palaces” in Croatian, which tells you everything about where you’ll be staying. We’re talking proper Old Town Dubrovnik here, not some tourist strip outside the walls.

The building itself has that weathered limestone look that screams centuries of history, but step inside and it’s clear someone put serious thought into making this work for modern travelers. The rooms have this perfect balance – you’ve got exposed stone walls and wooden beams that remind you you’re sleeping in a medieval city, but the beds are actually comfortable (trust me, I’ve stayed in “charming” European places where authenticity meant a sore back). The bathrooms are compact but well-designed, and the water pressure is surprisingly good for an old building. I mean, you’re literally a three-minute walk from the Rector’s Palace, so you can’t expect a massive suite, but the space feels thoughtful rather than cramped.

What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night – Između Polača isn’t one of those streets where drunk tourists stumble back from the bars at 2 AM. You’ll hear the occasional echo of footsteps on stone, maybe some distant music from Stradun, but it’s more atmospheric than disruptive. The staff actually live in Dubrovnik (not always a given with these boutique places), so they know things like which bakery opens earliest for pastries or how to avoid the cruise ship crowds at the city walls. They told me to hit Buža Bar for sunset drinks – not exactly a secret, but they mentioned the best time to grab a table before it gets mobbed.

The location really is something special, though I have to be honest about the trade-offs. Yes, you’re inside the walls with all that magic, but getting luggage here means navigating those polished limestone steps that get slippery when wet. There’s no parking nearby (I mean, it’s a medieval city), so you’ll need to use Pile or Ploče garages and walk. But honestly? After a day of fighting crowds at the more obvious hotels near the main drag, coming back to this quiet little street felt like discovering a hidden corner of the city. The 9.3 rating makes sense – it’s not trying to be everything to everyone, but what it does, it does really well. If you want to feel like you’re staying in someone’s carefully restored family home rather than a generic hotel, this is your spot.

Very clean, tidy, newly decorated. Right in the old town, so easy to explore! Perfect location! The owners were really friendly and helpful, and provided several good tips. Highly recommend.

What could be improved: Nothing – we liked everything!

Zeljka went out of her way to meet us at the property when we arrived at Dubrovnik, and Marko helped us up the stairs with our suitcae

What could be improved: Everything was great

  • Chelsea from United Kingdom – 26 August 2024 (10/10)

The property is newly renovated to the highest standard. It is in the best location and albeit right in the centre, the room is very quiet which is great. It’s super clean and stylish and the owners can’t do enough for you, very friendly and accommodating. Would highly recommend this apartment to anybody.

What could be improved: Nothing at all, it was perfect

  • Timmie from Netherlands – 27 July 2024 (10/10)

Nice clean room on excellent location in old town. Nice owner. Nice shower and coffee and fruits!

What could be improved: Nothing really, but you have to be able to handle a lot of tourism.

  • Maja from Croatia – 20 July 2024 (10/10)

Accomodation is comepletely new, very modern with old town vibe, all impeccably clean, in heart of city centre but still quiet. Hospitality was perfect and room has everything you could need for your stay. We loved it so much and will back soon 🙂

  • Robert from Australia – 18 September 2024 (9/10)

The host met us at the property and explained all features and entrance codes etc. Assisted with the cases up the last flight of stairs. Be aware that there are 3 flights of stairs although this is well explained in the booking site. The property is in the "Old Town" but the accommodation is new and modern whilst still having the old-world charm. The wifi is secure and exceptional. The location is fantastic allowing for easy access to all the attractions. Overall, a great stay and would book again.

What could be improved: Maybe a kitchen sink, but not a deal breaker. Must understand you are located in an old building.

  • Amanda from Australia – 18 May 2025 (4/10)

The location of this room is excellent, right in the middle of the town close to sights, shops and restaurants. The room and bathroom were clean.

What could be improved: This room was described as quiet, which it is NOT. It is directly above 2 restaurants with noise from very early in the morning to very late at night. Even with noise cancelling headphones on I was woken multiple times overnight. The room next door is also very audible – with every conversation and ablution heard easily. The linen is cheap and nasty, with lumpy pillows and only a single synthetic duvet, despite being a double bed (although it is actually only 2 single mattresses side by side. For the price of the room, it is NOT worth it. I ended up leaving a day early due to the noise.

  • Tanya from Turkey – 20 May 2025 (10/10)
