Hotel Description
You know what caught me off guard about Villa Dard? I was expecting another generic three-star place, but this little gem on Pera Bakica actually has character. The building itself has that weathered Dalmatian stone look that somehow feels both ancient and welcoming – you can tell it’s been here long enough to belong in this neighborhood, which honestly matters more than you’d think in a city where half the accommodations feel like they were dropped in yesterday.
The location is one of those “locals know” spots that works perfectly for travelers. You’re tucked away from the main tourist chaos (thank god, because Stradun can be absolutely brutal in summer), but it’s maybe a 10-minute walk to the Old Town walls. I mean, you could probably do it in seven if you’re not dragging luggage up those stone steps. The real winner though is being close to the Ploče area – there’s this great little bakery around the corner that most tourists never find, and you’re walking distance to the cable car station without dealing with the crowds that swarm the more obvious hotels. Parking can be tricky, like everywhere in Dubrovnik, but the staff actually knows the neighborhood well enough to give you real advice, not just “try the public garage.”
What impressed me most was how the place feels lived-in rather than corporate. The rooms aren’t huge – this is Croatia, not Vegas – but they’re thoughtfully set up with local touches that make sense. Stone accents, decent air conditioning (crucial in August, trust me), and windows that actually open properly for those perfect spring evenings when the sea breeze kicks in. The 8.4 rating makes sense once you spend a night or two; it’s not luxury, but it’s genuine comfort with staff who seem to actually care about whether you find that good seafood restaurant or figure out the bus schedule to the islands. I’ve stayed at fancier places in Dubrovnik that felt like sleeping in a brochure – this feels like staying somewhere real people might actually live.

Reviews
Very good – Sarah from United States – 26 June 2025 (8/10)
Staff are super nice. Rooms are very spacious. Free parking which is hard to come by
What could be improved: It’s definitely outside the city which worked for us since we needed to park; however just keep in mind it’s likely a 10 minute walk (likely 100 steps) to the walls.A lovely, friendly place to stay in a fabulous city. – Sheila from United Kingdom – 23 June 2025 (8/10)
Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful and did much to accommodate us. The air conditioning was excellent! The room was more like an apartment – very spacious, with a lovely terrace, kitchenette and a good bathroom.
What could be improved: It was quite a long walk from the old town. I may have preferred to stay a bit closer but the upside was we got a lot of exercise walking back and forth! I suspect if it hadn't been so hot when we were there it wouldn't have been an issue at all.Superb – Sara from Slovenia – 11 May 2025 (9/10)
Friendly staff, villa within the walking distance of the old town, parking is a big plus since there are quite expensive parking lots and garages near the old town.
Overall, a good place – Giulia from Italy – 4 May 2025 (7/10)
The apartment looked just like in the photos, and overall cleanliness was good. We especially enjoyed the beautiful sea view from the living room and bedroom. Towels were changed daily and beds were made, which we appreciated.
What could be improved: A downside was that the windows of the living room, one bedroom, and the terrace faced a busy main road. This took away from the peaceful sea view due to the constant traffic noise.
Also, two windows couldn’t be opened. We reported this to the reception and were told someone would come the next morning, but no one showed up. We had to follow up again in the afternoon, and only then the issue was fixed.Superb – Evangelos from Greece – 3 May 2025 (9/10)
Clean and spacious, plenty of storage space in bedroom.
Apartment cleaned daily, fresh towels.
Good wifi
Comfy bed
Very friendly managers / staff.
Location is relatively good. About 15 minutes to entrance of old town, without steps, just uphill/downhill (slightly shorter with lots of steps). Safe to walk at night.
Supermarket almost across the street.
Free parking at hotel was perfect (leaving car keys at reception made us slightly uncomfortable but all was fine).
We didn't have problems with traffic noise.
What could be improved: No elevator, difficult for third floor, especially after the many steps in the old town (though we should have been aware)
In the kitchen, the sink was leaky and when you washed dishes, floor got wet. We didn't say anything though since we didn't want to lose time with maintenance.
There wasn't much else to not like, but some suggestions for improvement.
In the kitchen, a shelf would be perfect because there was no space to leave anything. Also, a larger sharp knife.
In the bedroom, since there are no bedstands and the board at the bedhead is not enough, again, even a wooden board on each side would be useful.
At apartment door, two or three hooks for coats so they are not spread on the couch.
And, one chair in the living room can make a huge difference.Great city stay with kids – Natalie from United Kingdom – 23 April 2025 (9/10)
Staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful. Just a 10 min walk with the kids to the wall. Really comfy and spacious and great to have two bathrooms. Staff organised breakfast to our room as we have 3 small children with early wake ups. There was a bath for the kids too which was great and a fridge. We were a bit worried about parking but the staff parked up the car and it was always accessible.
Good choice not too far from Old Town, excellent Uber service available, – Robert from United States – 21 October 2024 (8/10)
Paid for upgrade to an excellent room…
What could be improved: Street crossing can be a problem.Friendly staff and fantastic location – Virginia from Argentina – 19 September 2024 (7/10)
The staff was very friendly, and the location was incredible, especially with the available parking. It’s just a 10-15 minute walk to the Old Town, but keep in mind that there are some stairs along the way! Overall, a good place to stay with easy access to the touristic areas.
What could be improved: Parking it’s a little complicated at the beginningNice stay, good value for money. – Marc from New Zealand – 13 September 2024 (9/10)
Clean and tidy and great location.
What could be improved: No lift and we were on Level 3.Comfortable and convenient location just up from the Old Town – Christopher from United Kingdom – 5 September 2024 (9/10)
Very comfortable room, kindly made available for me early. Staff endlessly patient and considerate. Congenial walk down to the Old Town (though lots of steps back up!). Also very convenient to walk down to the ferry port.
What could be improved: Light sleepers should be aware that the hotel is on a main road, so there was traffic noise until late evening.
