Hotel Description
You know what? I’ve stayed at a lot of hotels in Dubrovnik, and Villa Dubrovnik is honestly in a league of its own. The thing is, most people get stuck in the Old Town thinking that’s where they need to be, but this place sits on the Ploče peninsula – literally a five-minute walk from Pile Gate – and the views are just ridiculous. I mean, you’re looking straight across at the medieval walls from your terrace, and it’s the kind of view that makes you forget to check your phone for hours. The hotel itself feels more like a sophisticated private residence than a typical five-star place. When you pull up (and yeah, they actually have valet parking, which is a godsend in Dubrovnik), you’re greeted by this modernist building that somehow doesn’t clash with the ancient surroundings. The lobby smells like sea salt and that particular Mediterranean combination of lavender and stone that you can’t quite recreate anywhere else.
What really got me was how they’ve managed to make luxury feel… well, actually luxurious instead of stuffy. The rooms – especially the ones facing the Old Town – have these floor-to-ceiling windows that basically turn your wall into a living postcard. The staff knows their stuff too; they’ll tell you to hit Nautika for dinner if you want to impress someone, but they’ll also quietly mention that the best burek is from the little place near the market that opens at 6 AM. I stayed there in September, which is honestly the perfect time – still warm enough for the infinity pool but without the cruise ship crowds that make July unbearable. Speaking of that pool, it’s right on the edge of the cliff, so you’re essentially swimming with the Adriatic as your backdrop. The restaurant terrace gets packed during sunset (book ahead, seriously), but if you grab a drink at the bar around 4 PM, you’ll have the whole view to yourself.
Here’s the thing that really sets Villa Dubrovnik apart – it’s one of those rare places where the 9.6 rating actually makes sense. The location gives you the best of both worlds: you’re close enough to walk to Stradun for dinner, but far enough from the madness that you can actually sleep without earplugs. The hotel’s boat can zip you to Lokrum Island in ten minutes, and trust me, that’s worth doing at least once. I’ll be honest, it’s not cheap – this is definitely a splurge situation – but if you’re going to do Dubrovnik properly, this is how you do it. The whole experience feels curated but not artificial, luxurious but not pretentious. Plus, you’re staying in Ploče, which means you’re in the same neighborhood as some of the city’s best restaurants (Villa Dubrovnik’s own restaurant is excellent, but venture out to Dubrovnik’s hidden gems too). It’s the kind of place that makes you understand why people fall in love with the Adriatic coast.

Exceptional – David from United States – 11 September 2023 (10/10)
What could be improved: Lightening in the bathrooms is a little sparse therefore for ladies difficult putting on makeup. The hairdryers need to have a longer attached cord since it is attached to the drawer – difficult to reach top of head when drying hair.
heavenly stay in Dubrovnik – Debrah from Australia – 4 August 2023 (10/10)
Everything! the location is stunning! wonderful and spectacular! . staff incredibly helpful. even before we arrived I contacted hotel for restaurant and activity recommendations. They were v prompt and assisted with making bookings at places that are difficult to get into. they had taken note of some of our special needs requests and even the driver who we organised through the hotel to meet us at the airport was sensitive to our needs! Things just happened there without fuss! they provide a regular complimentary afternoon shuttle service to the old town which was much appreciated in the heat. swimming in the sea off their rock beach was divine! the food and service at breakfast and lunch was fantastic! I hope to go back soon!
What could be improved: I noticed the lifeguard was a bit lazy.. not sufficiently vigilant on a rough sea day. but I brought this to attention of management and she promised to address the issue immediately and I saw a definite improvement!!We will definitely return and can’t wait to see the results of the renovations! – Paul from United Kingdom – 21 July 2023 (10/10)
