Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about Villa Madonna della Strada? It’s tucked away on Crijevićeva Street in a way that feels like you’ve discovered something locals have been keeping to themselves. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of Old Town Dubrovnik – and I’m talking about the real Old Town, not some tourist-trap version – but this little apartment feels surprisingly peaceful considering you’re surrounded by centuries-old stone walls and narrow cobblestone streets that echo with footsteps until well past midnight during summer months.
The thing about staying in apartment 3 here is that you get this perfect balance of being close enough to everything that matters without feeling like you’re camping out in the middle of a theme park. Honestly, I’ve stayed in plenty of Old Town places where you can hear every tour group shuffling past your window at 7 AM, but this spot on Crijevićeva is just far enough off the main drag that you actually get to sleep in. The morning light filtering through those thick stone walls is something else – it’s got this warm, golden quality that makes you want to linger over coffee instead of rushing out to tick off sightseeing boxes. And speaking of coffee, there’s this tiny local café about two minutes’ walk away where the owner (I think his name was Marko?) makes the kind of espresso that ruins you for chain coffee forever.
What really sets this place apart – and this is coming from someone who’s done the whole Dubrovnik accommodation dance more times than I care to count – is how it manages to feel authentically Croatian while still giving you everything you need as a traveler. The 4-star rating isn’t just about thread count and marble bathrooms (though those are nice touches); it’s about thoughtful details like having a proper kitchen where you can actually cook if you want to escape restaurant prices for a night, or the way the Wi-Fi actually works reliably, which is honestly more than you can say for some fancier hotels I’ve tried. The 9.1 rating makes sense when you experience little things like how quiet it gets at night – I mean, you’re still in a medieval city center, so there’s some ambient noise, but it’s the good kind: distant laughter from a nearby konoba, maybe some late-night guitar music drifting over from someone’s balcony. The location means you can walk to the city walls in about three minutes, hit Stradun (the main street) in five, and still retreat to what feels like your own little sanctuary when the crowds get overwhelming – which, let’s be honest, they absolutely will if you’re visiting between June and August.

Host was easy to communicate with and resposive. Accommodation was easy to access, clean and comfortable. Shower was good. The bowl of friut and water in the fridge was a lovely touch and very welcomed. The included breakfast was at a lovely cafe. Location was easy to find (we did miss a message from the host saying that we would be met at the gates, which was a shame but an excellent service for others).

Great apartment in a lovely location with access to a great bar on the outside of the walls. It's nicely furnished, immaculately clean and the breakfast arrangements are good as you get to sit in the main street watching the world go by. We were also able to leave our bags in a secure spot on leaving day which was an added bonus.

We missed out on 1 night because of flight delay, so sad, this was the perfect place! Very handy with breakfast coupons to a café nearby. They helped us with taxi transfer and carrying the luggage to the door which was great.
