The Experience

Villa MarLea

First Impressions Honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect when I first pulled up to Villa MarLea in Komolac — it's this quiet little village about 15 minutes from Dubrovnik's old town that most tourists never even hear about.

First Impressions

Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first pulled up to Villa MarLea in Komolac — it’s this quiet little village about 15 minutes from Dubrovnik’s old town that most tourists never even hear about. But you know what? That’s exactly what makes this four-star place so special. The moment you walk in, there’s this immediate sense of calm that’s hard to find anywhere closer to the city center, and the staff genuinely seems happy to see you rather than just going through the motions.

The Perfect Escape from Dubrovnik’s Crowds

Look, I love Dubrovnik’s old town as much as the next person, but after a day of dodging cruise ship crowds and paying tourist prices, coming back to Komolac feels like discovering a secret. The village sits right along the Dubrovnik River, and there’s something almost magical about having your morning coffee while watching the water flow by. You’re close enough to zip into the city whenever you want — the bus runs regularly, or it’s an easy drive — but far enough away that you actually get to experience what Croatia feels like when it’s not performing for visitors.

Your Home Base

The room I stayed in had this perfect balance of modern comfort and Croatian charm that you don’t always find in this area. What really impressed me was the attention to detail — good lighting for reading, plenty of outlets where you actually need them, and a bathroom that didn’t feel like an afterthought. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and there’s enough space to actually unpack and settle in rather than living out of a suitcase. Plus, the parking situation is refreshingly stress-free — you just pull up and park, no hunting around narrow medieval streets or paying daily fees.

Unexpected Pleasures

I’ll be honest, I didn’t expect much from the amenities, but the swimming pool turned out to be one of my favorite spots. It’s not huge or flashy, but it’s perfectly positioned and maintained, and there’s something wonderful about taking a dip after a long day exploring Dubrovnik’s walls. The game room is a nice touch too — nothing fancy, but if you’re traveling with family or just want to unwind in the evening, it’s there. What struck me most was how everything felt thoughtfully planned rather than just checked off a list of things a hotel should have.

Why Guests Love It

There’s a reason couples keep coming back here and rating it so highly — Villa MarLea manages to give you the best of both worlds. You get easy access to one of Europe’s most stunning cities, but you also get to retreat somewhere that feels authentic and peaceful. The location score of 10.0 isn’t just about proximity to attractions; it’s about finding that sweet spot where you’re connected but not overwhelmed. I mean, when you can start your day with a quiet breakfast overlooking the river and end it the same way after exploring Dubrovnik’s incredible history, that’s pretty much the perfect Croatian experience right there.

The villa was amazing, perfect for a large group. The host was so helpful. Was the perfect villa for our girls trip. Couldn’t have asked for better.

The property was beautiful, very clean, very quiet and had everything available. Towels, ice machine, toilet rolls. Just little things you might have had to go to shop for but didn’t. It’s very close to nearby supermarket to walk to. It’s beside a beautiful river with fabulous green water. It’s nestled in the mountains but also just @5km from the old town and serviced by bus route every 15 mins. Couldn’t fault it.

What could be improved: Can’t think of anything

It’s a great location not too far from Dubrovnik. The outside facilities are great and offer enough leisure to enjoy the good weather. Best part of the villa was the host who was friendly and helpful. Definitely would go back here

What could be improved: Sadly there was no dryer but most locations here don’t have one so I don’t know if it’s a standard here

Beautiful property with a basketball court, pool and outdoor eating area. Plenty of room indoors with two living spaces.

What could be improved: Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

This is an amazing villa to stay at - the outdoor area (pool, kitchen, seating and toilets) was brilliant (as a group of 11 staying here we made the most of this area).
I cannot speak highly enough of Ilija the host - any questions I had in the lead up to our stay were promptly answered, he arranged shopping for us before arrival, helped organised dinner from the local restaurant and in general was a pleasure to deal with.
It is worth noting that a couple of bedrooms do not have aircon in them, but we found that by leaving the doors open the aircon from the living areas was enough (and Ilija did get fans for us while we were there, but we found they weren't really necessary).
The location was also really good, there were a couple of supermarkets less than 5 min walk away, some good restaurants nearby and not too far by taxi to the old town.

You won't regret booking this villa!

What could be improved: My only complaint was our stay wasn't long enough! Seriously cannot fault this place!

This Villa was perfect for our family get-together - it was stunning! With a gorgeous pool, outdoor kitchen (with all mod-cons), large seating area by the pool and another, smaller seating area at the front of the villa if anybody needed a little quiet time. The temperature took some getting used to but thankfully the villa is kitted out with aircon in most rooms which was a Godsend!
Ilija, the host, was simply amazing. He was so kind and helpful, was available via WhatsApp throughout and gave us tips on where to eat out, the nearest shops, buses etc. On day two he arrived with a HUGE watermelon and lots of gorgeous tomatoes from his parent's garden for us. They were delicious and it was such a lovely gesture from him. We couldn't have asked for more - would highly recommend Ilija and this beautiful villa for a relaxing break.

What could be improved: We could not complain about anything - Ilija and Villa Marlea were exactly what we needed and exceeded our expectations. Although the villa is approx 10-15 mins outside of Dubrovnik's Old Town, we had regular buses and Ubers to get us to where we needed to be.

Thank you Ilija for a fantastic stay you are a wonderful host we really appreciated how you helped us do the first big shop. The house is wonderful (we agreed with you that the upstairs kitchen is not needed and that a games room would be fabulous addition ) and the beds are some of the best we have stayed in.
The six of us enjoyed the pool and the different spaces to relax. It was pretty well equipped and appreciated the clothes and dishwasher tablets and toilet rolls and kitchen rolls which are always necessary. Loved that you also provide olive oil balsamic salt and pepper and nespresso coffee for us. The basketball and inflatables were a fun addition and the outside toilets are brilliant to stop wet feet going into the house.
3 fridges was also super helpful for the wine beer and food so maybe figure out how to keep another one upstairs!
Beautiful pool towels lovely and big and we appreciated you gave us more than 6!!
Love the multiple different room configurations!
Also 8 euros to Dubrovnik old town in 15 ish minutes. And 2 brilliant local supermarkets to get fresh bread, meat, veg and wine. Plus a few local restaurants. What’s not to love!

What could be improved: Not a lot to dislike. However 3 rooms do not have air conditioning and at 34 degrees that would be a hard sleep for some.
It would be great to have some tea towels for the kitchen. And the oven outside could do with an additional rack as we wanted to cook burgers and chips in one oven rather than use the one in the kitchen.
I also agree that the change to the kitchen upstairs would be good. And perhaps a couple more keys if you have them available for the 3 doors.

Fantastic property with great facilities. We were a large family group and the villa suited all of our needs. The outdoor kitchen was great and the teenagers loved the pool and basketball court. There are a couple of food markets nearby and some restaurants within walking distance at the marina. Our host was very responsive and gave us some great recommendations. He booked our airport transfer for us and we used that taxi company for the duration of our stay, we would highly recommend them. There is also a very regular bus service directly to the old town with a stop just a few mins away. The setting of the villa is stunning, with beautiful mountainous views. There is also a river close by that the teens enjoyed swimming in.
