Villa Miri, Heritage Superior Villa with Swimming Pool

I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Villa Miri on Zagrebačka Ulica, I wasn’t expecting much from the outside. The street’s pretty quiet, just a few minutes’ walk from the main drag leading to Old Town, and the building has that understated Croatian elegance that doesn’t scream “look at me.” But man, once you step inside, it’s like discovering a secret that everyone else somehow missed.

The heritage villa thing isn’t just marketing speak – you can actually feel the history in the thick stone walls and the way the rooms are laid out. My room had these gorgeous original details mixed with modern touches that actually work together (unlike some places that try too hard to be boutique-y). The pool area is where this place really shines though. It’s not huge, but it’s perfectly positioned to catch the afternoon sun, and there’s something magical about floating there in the early evening when the light hits the stone walls just right. You know what I loved most? The sound – or lack of it. Zagrebačka Ulica gets the occasional car, but it’s worlds away from the cruise ship chaos down by the harbor.

The location is actually brilliant once you figure out the lay of the land. You’re about a 10-minute walk to Pile Gate (the main entrance to Old Town), but here’s the thing – you can also walk down to Banje Beach pretty easily, and there’s a little konoba around the corner that hardly any tourists know about. The staff genuinely seems to care about the place, which you don’t always get at these smaller properties. They helped me sort out a dinner reservation when everywhere was booked, and the guy at reception actually drew me a map showing the best route to avoid the crowds during the day. Check-in was smooth, parking is sorted (trust me, you’ll appreciate this in Dubrovnik), and the breakfast – well, it’s Croatian breakfast done right, with local cheeses and that strong coffee that’ll wake you up properly. The only minor thing I’d mention is that some rooms face the street, so if you’re a super light sleeper, maybe ask for one facing the courtyard. But honestly, with a 9.7 rating, they’re clearly doing something right, and after staying there, I get why people keep coming back.
