Apartment Antej

You know what surprised me most about Apartment Antej? It’s tucked away on this narrow little street called Ulica Svetog Križa – and I mean narrow, like you’re wondering if a car can even fit through there – but somehow it feels completely peaceful despite being just a few minutes’ walk from all the Old Town chaos. The building itself has that weathered stone look that’s everywhere in Dubrovnik, but inside it’s been done up really nicely without trying too hard to be fancy.

The apartment I stayed in was honestly bigger than I expected for the price point. Croatian apartments can be hit or miss, but this one actually had proper air conditioning (crucial if you’re visiting in summer, trust me), and the kitchen was functional enough that I could make coffee in the morning without having to hunt down a café right away. The owner, Antej I’m assuming, seems to get that travelers need practical stuff – there were extra towels, the Wi-Fi actually worked throughout the space, and he’d left some basic info about the area that was way more helpful than the generic tourist brochures you usually get. The bathroom was compact but well-designed, and I appreciated that everything felt clean and recently updated.

What really sold me on this place was the location, though. You’re close enough to Stradun that you can pop over for dinner or drinks without planning your whole evening around it, but far enough that you’re not dealing with cruise ship crowds stumbling past your window at all hours. There’s this little bakery about two blocks away that locals actually go to – not one of those tourist traps – and you can grab fresh pastries for breakfast. Parking’s always a nightmare in Dubrovnik, but if you’re driving, there are some spots nearby that aren’t completely impossible to navigate. The 8.2 rating makes sense to me; it’s not trying to be a luxury hotel, but it delivers on what it promises. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I was planning to spend a few days exploring the city properly rather than just doing the quick tourist circuit.
