You know what? I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Dubrovnik over the years, and Apartment Gorica is honestly one of those spots that just gets it right. It’s tucked away on Gorica Svetog Vlaha – which, let’s be real, sounds way more intimidating than it actually is – right in the heart of Lapad. The thing about Lapad is that it’s where the locals actually live and breathe, not just the tourist circus of the Old Town. Don’t get me wrong, the Old Town is stunning, but after your third day of dodging cruise ship crowds, you’ll appreciate coming back to a neighborhood where kids are playing football in the street and grandmothers are hanging laundry on balconies.

The apartment itself feels like someone’s well-loved home rather than a sterile hotel room. I mean, the 9.4 rating isn’t just for show – there’s this attention to detail that you notice immediately. The floors are that beautiful Croatian stone that stays cool even in summer heat, and the windows actually open wide (you’d be surprised how many places cheap out on proper windows). The kitchen is properly equipped too, which matters if you’re like me and get tired of restaurant food after a few days. There’s a little balcony where you can have your morning coffee and actually hear birds instead of tour guides with megaphones. The Wi-Fi is solid – I worked from there for three days without issues – and the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a helicopter landing, which is honestly a small miracle in this part of the world.

What really sold me on this place, though, is the location within Lapad itself. You’re maybe a ten-minute walk to Lapad Bay, where the water is this incredible blue-green and the beach isn’t packed with umbrellas charging tourist prices. There’s a little pathway that locals use to get down to the rocky parts of the shore – perfect if you want to swim without the crowds. The Dubrovnik bus system actually works pretty well from here (route 6 gets you to the Old Town in about fifteen minutes), but honestly, I found myself walking more often than not. It’s about a twenty-five minute stroll along the coast, and you pass these little coves and cafes that most visitors never see. The owner – lovely woman, by the way – gave me directions to this bakery about five minutes away where they make these incredible burek pastries. I probably went there every morning, much to my diet’s dismay. The neighborhood has that lived-in feeling where people nod hello on the street and kids are riding bikes around. It’s Croatia as it actually is, not as the tourism board packages it.

  Clean , spacious apartment in a quiet residential area, terrace was fab with table, chairs and 4 sun beds. Beautiful view! Hosts were great, All facilities in the apartment were there that you would need, bbq provided We were a family of 5
