Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Apartment Hedera A14 on Lazarina Street, I wasn’t expecting much. It’s tucked away in this quiet residential area of Ploče, about a 15-minute walk from the Old Town walls, and from the outside it just looks like… well, an apartment building. But you know what? That’s exactly why it works so well.

The thing about staying here is that you’re actually living like a local for a few days, not just passing through as another tourist. Your neighbors are Croatian families heading to work in the morning, not other travelers dragging suitcases down marble hotel corridors. The apartment itself is surprisingly spacious – I mean, after staying in those cramped Old Town hotels where you can barely open your suitcase, having an actual living room feels like luxury. The kitchen’s properly equipped too, which matters more than you’d think when you want to grab some fresh fish from the morning market and actually cook it yourself. The wifi’s solid (I worked from there a couple mornings), and honestly, the air conditioning works better than most places I’ve stayed in Dubrovnik.

What really sold me on this place, though, is the location once you understand it. Sure, it’s not right in the thick of things, but that’s actually perfect. You’re close enough to walk to Banje Beach in about 10 minutes – and trust me, that’s the beach you want, not the crowded pebble strips closer to the walls. Plus, there’s this little konoba called Dubrovnik just around the corner that serves the best black risotto I’ve had outside of someone’s grandmother’s kitchen. The bus stop for the airport shuttle is practically outside your door, and parking (if you’re brave enough to drive in Croatia) is way easier here than anywhere near the Old Town. I stayed during peak summer season and could actually sleep with the windows open – you definitely can’t do that on Stradun where the party crowds stumble by until 3 AM. The building’s quiet, the check-in was straightforward, and the whole experience just felt more… real, I guess. Like you’re discovering a side of Dubrovnik that most tourists miss because they’re too focused on staying within the ancient walls. Sometimes the best experiences happen when you’re not trying so hard to be in the center of everything.

  Fantastic location and even better views (I’ve stayed in many places in Dubrovnik and this is my new favorite). The apartment was comfortable and in a quiet area but just a few minutes walk into the old town. The price was very fair considering the general prices in Dubrovnik at that time of year!
  
  What could be improved: Although we had very clear instructions how to get to the apartment google maps sent us down many steps and then back up many steps (with loads of luggage and elderly parents). It would help to add that in the directions from the parking lot that was recommended. (Ex – do not take the first set of steps down as google suggests when arriving from the parking lot, but rather it is better to ‘overshoot’ the apartment, go down the small street and then the steps down.) Not an issue unless arriving from the recommended parking lot with elderly people.

  What could be improved: I didnt like that they didnt tell me to reserve a parking spot in advance. I ended up having to park 3kn away and take a taxi in. The floors were pretty dirty and the facilities outdated. The tv did not work and could not be fixed while we were there. The walk up the stairs to the apt is a deeep and long walk.

  What could be improved: Équipement insatisfaisant : manque de prises électriques, à nous de trouver les serviettes dans des placards, douche parentale pas pratique, etc
  Propreté superficielle : 3 araignées au plafond bien visible alors que l’équipe de nettoyage était passée 15 mn avant.
  Petite Taille des pièces de service : salles d’eau, cuisine.

  What could be improved: Gezien de prijs die we betaalden is alles, behalve het uitzicht, wel minimaal. Het interieur is verouderd en het rook wat muf. Keuken bijzonder onpraktisch want super smal tussen aanrecht en bar. Badkamers onhandig. Oud balkonmeubilair. Geen matrassen voor houten ligbedden. Je moet goed ter been zijn om hier te komen. 80 traptreden naar voordeur, maar dat wisten we vooraf. Instructieboek met veel verboden, we voelden ons daardoor niet heel welkom. Parkeren is lastig in heel Dubrovnik. Wel wat advies gekregen.
