You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to Apartment Ivančica on Od Domina street – honestly, the narrow cobblestone lane looked almost too quiet to house anything special. But stepping inside, I immediately got why this place has that perfect 10 rating. The apartment sits right in the heart of Old Town, and I mean *right* in it – you’re literally surrounded by those iconic limestone walls that make Dubrovnik feel like you’re living inside a medieval postcard.

The thing about staying here is that you’re close enough to everything that matters, but tucked away from the cruise ship crowds that flood Stradun during peak hours. I’d wake up around 7 AM to the sound of shopkeepers hosing down their storefronts, which sounds annoying but was actually kind of charming – it meant I could grab coffee and explore before the tour groups arrived. The apartment itself feels genuinely Croatian, not like those sterile hotel rooms that could be anywhere in Europe. There’s this wonderful old-meets-new vibe where you’ve got modern amenities (thank god for the AC in July) but still feel connected to the city’s history. The owner clearly knows what travelers actually need – good water pressure, blackout curtains, and a kitchen stocked well enough that you can make breakfast instead of paying €15 for hotel eggs.

What really sold me on this place was how it made me feel like a temporary local rather than a tourist passing through. My neighbors were mostly Croatian families, and the little bakery around the corner on Prijeko became my daily ritual. The location means you can walk to the city walls in three minutes, but more importantly, you’re positioned perfectly to duck into those hidden konobas (taverns) that locals actually frequent. I mean, sure, you’ll hear some street noise during the day – it’s Old Town, not a resort – but by 10 PM everything settles into this peaceful quiet that’s hard to find anywhere else in Dubrovnik. If you’re planning to visit during summer, just know that those stone streets retain heat, so having this cool apartment as your base feels like a luxury. Honestly, after staying here, I can’t imagine doing Dubrovnik any other way.
