Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of places in Dubrovnik over the years, and honestly? Apartment Larissa hits that sweet spot where you get the charm without the tourist trap nonsense. It’s tucked away in the old town – and I mean actually in the historic center, not some suburb where they claim you’re “minutes from everything.” When you step out onto that terrace in the morning with your coffee, you catch glimpses of the Adriatic between the terracotta rooftops, and there’s something about that partial sea view that’s actually more magical than those full-frontal ocean places. Maybe it’s because you have to peek around the corner to see it, like you’re discovering something secret.
The studio itself is… well, it’s cozy without being cramped, if that makes sense. The stone walls keep things cool even when August heat is making everyone else miserable, and the owner clearly knows what travelers actually need – decent Wi-Fi, a kitchen that’s more than just a hot plate, and thank god, proper blackout curtains. I mean, those church bells start early, and while they’re charming, you don’t always want to be charmed at 6 AM. The terrace is where you’ll spend most of your time anyway – it’s got this perfect size where two people can have breakfast without bumping elbows, and in the evening, you can hear the street musicians from Stradun echoing off the walls. There’s something about eating dinner out there while listening to that acoustic guitar drifting up from the main drag that just works.
What really sold me on this place, though, is the location within the location – you know what I mean? You’re on one of those narrow side streets where actual locals still live, not just souvenir shops and overpriced restaurants. The bakery around the corner opens at 7 AM (the one with the amazing burek, not the touristy one), and you can walk to the city walls in about three minutes without fighting through crowds. Parking is always a nightmare in Dubrovnik, but there’s a spot just outside Pile Gate that locals use – about a five-minute walk with your luggage, which beats the hell out of those hotels where you’re dragging suitcases up endless stairs. The check-in was refreshingly straightforward too, none of that “meet me at the restaurant across town” drama I’ve dealt with at other apartments. Just real keys, clear directions, and someone who actually answered their phone when I had questions. If you’re coming in summer, book early – places like this that actually deliver on their promises don’t stay available long.
